The Bridge Classic Cars team are going full ahead with the recommission of the 1967 Austin Healey 3000. After finding the oil sump damaged, the team ordered a replacement but the pressed style pans are unavailable so a cast aluminium oil pan was ordered. In order to make this work, our technician Jon has had trim down the pickup to the oil pump and then refit the strainer.

‘Remove oil pump stariner and clean out. Trim 1/4″ off oil pump pick up and then file slots in sides so oil can be scavenged even if strainer flat up against new sump. Refit strainer. Fit new gasket with well seal to new alloy sump.’

‘Fit nw sump and secure to e gine. Torque up to 8nm. Cut 2 long boltsdown and use to fit small brackets to hold carb overflow pipes. Fit new sump bung.’

‘Fill with oil and crank over to try and get oil pressure.pressure rose to 40 psi. Reconnect HT leads and try and start and run up for 10 seconds. Check oil and top up. Start again but won’t start now. Investigate. No spark . Trace to new points earthing out in distributor. Remove and add insulation washer underneath and reset. Check and have a spark now. Refit cap and test. Runs.’
