Midget Wiring

Jonn fitted a new manual washer pump to our 1978 MG Midget, primed the system, and tested it to ensure correct operation before securing it to the dashboard. The heater fan was tested by powering it directly, and an ignition live feed was checked from the fuse box. A dedicated wire was made to run from the fuse box to the heater fan, with routing planned to include a switch on the dashboard. A mounting bracket for the switch was fabricated.

Wiring to the heater fan was completed, including a run from the fuse box across to the fan. This wire was taped into the existing loom for neatness and routed internally to the switch location. A small earth wire was prepared in readiness for the switch’s arrival. The switch mounting bracket was fabricated and fitted.

A new wheel cylinder was fitted to the nearside rear brake. The brake drum was refitted and adjusted, followed by a full brake bleed and pressure check, both of which were successful. The brakes performed well on test. Rear brake shoes were adjusted, and the handbrake was checked for proper operation. Brake fluid was topped up as needed.

At the rear, the exhaust mount was removed, and a corner was trimmed off as it was fouling the mounting point. It was then refitted and secured. The original wheels were refitted to allow transport to the paint shop. Finally, wiring beneath the driver’s side dashboard was secured neatly with cable ties.
