Jonn has carried out several repairs on our 1968 MGC Roadster, starting with the removal of all retainers securing the wiring, brake pipe, and fuel pipe under the floor. The old fuel pipe, running from the tank to the engine, was removed and replaced with a new one, routed through the retainers and secured before being connected at both ends and fastened with cable ties where needed. The area was then undersealed.

The front pulley was painted, and all timing marks were highlighted in white for clarity. Both stainless sill covers were drilled and riveted at each end for secure fitting. Investigation into the quarter light handles revealed that they had broken off, necessitating partial removal from the door to access the fixings. As the pivot was seized, the bolt was ground off, and the quarter light was removed.

Additional painting tasks included the water pump pulley, which was left to dry, along with the air filter housing. Once dry, the water pump pulley and fan were fitted, the fan belt was adjusted, and the water pump pulley bolts were tightened. The alternator tensioner bolt was replaced and secured. The fuel pump, around the front and the steering column, was also painted.

Further work involved replacing the heater hose from the pump along with the small pipe also connected to the pump. The steering wheel was polished in preparation for refitting, with the centre masked off and painted. On the nearside quarter light, the glass was removed from the frame, the broken handle mount was drilled out, and the frame was cleaned.

Chris has also been painting various parts of our MGC black.
