Our 1968 MGC Roadster has been having some repairs completed by technician Jonn.
Commencing repairs as identified in the appraisal by Pete. Located the key for the driver’s door lock, lubricated and tested it, confirming proper function. The same key operates the boot lock. No key was found for the passenger door; however, the lock functions correctly from the inside. Both quarter lights require replacement due to broken handles. Tightened the sun visors, noting that the offside mount is broken but remains serviceable. Addressed the issue of the offside wiper striking the windscreen rubber by removing, rebuilding, refitting, and testing the wiper arm, confirming proper operation. Verified that the main beam functions correctly, operated by a foot switch on the floor. Checked dash illumination, which works when the rheostat is adjusted. Tightened rear bumper mounts.
Lifted the vehicle for inspection of listed items and additional concerns. Front bumper irons could not be further tightened; they are already secure, though the front bolts on each side were not fully seated. Removed all wheels for brake inspection. Stripped rear brakes, confirming wheel cylinder and handbrake operation were fine. Cleaned drums and brake shoes, wire brushed components, and repainted drums black before refitting. Repeated the process for the nearside. Polished brake pipes at each corner and secured the rear brake pipe across the axle using rubber hose and cable ties. Stripped both front brakes, removed pads for replacement, wire brushed components, masked and repainted in black.
Removed the pinion cover from the steering rack, extracted shims, refitted the cover, and reassessed the rack. Inner joints still exhibit play. A test drive will be conducted upon completion of repairs. Drained coolant and removed radiator hoses.
Dismantled radiator cowling, brackets, radiator, pedal box cover, air filter housing, water pump pulley, and fan for painting. Tidied the area, noting that some parts will require shot blasting before painting. Removed and flushed the header tank and identified that the radiator also requires flushing.
Drained engine oil and replaced the filter. Checked axle and gearbox fluid levels, confirming the axle level is adequate, though the gearbox was low. Used a funnel and pipe to refill the gearbox through the dipstick hole in the tunnel, bringing it to the correct level. Removed the rocker cover, adjusted the tappets, and tidied the wiring under the bonnet, securing it with tape and cable ties. Sanded and masked the heater box before applying satin black paint.
Applied a second coat to the heater box. Sanded the heater fan motor and painted it black. Shot blasted necessary parts for painting by Chris. Reinstalled the heater fan, ensuring it was securely fitted and wired correctly.
