Work has progressed steadily on our 1973 MGB Roadster as George addressed the installation of a battery cutoff switch.
He first removed the negative terminal and detached the battery cable in order to replace its connector with an eye terminal, which he soldered securely in place. With the modified cable reattached, he then assessed the most appropriate location for the cutoff switch and measured the required length for the new connecting wire.
To facilitate access, George carefully lifted the carpet to expose the underlying metal. He marked and cut a hole in the metalwork. To improve the appearance of the installation, he modified a repair washer by enlarging its centre, ensuring a cleaner finish where the switch passed through the trim.
He then cut the new wire to length, stripped the ends, and soldered an eye terminal to one end before fitting it. A trial assembly followed, allowing him to check alignment and functionality without fully securing any components. Once confirmed, all connections were properly tightened, the trim and interior elements were reinstated, and a final system test confirmed correct operation.
Lydia also fitted a full boot carpet made from tufted wool.
