On our 1967 MGB Roadster, the ignition barrel was found to be faulty and could not be tightened due to stripped threads. This issue has also led to twisted wiring behind the barrel, which appears to have been caused during the previous installation attempts.
Inspection of the vehicle’s underbody revealed that most of the front suspension bushes have cracked and deteriorated with age. The gearbox mounts were also noted to be cracked and have softened significantly, reducing their effectiveness. In addition, the front suspension rubber bumper stops have become detached, the front subframe rubber mounts show signs of cracking and have also gone soft, and the rear axle bump stop cups are heavily corroded.
Further examination of the fuel system wiring showed that the wiring for the fuel pump had been rubbing against a metal fuel pipe, nearly wearing through the insulation. It was also noted that the fuel pump terminals should ideally be soldered to ensure a secure and reliable connection.
