Ten years after the launch of McMurtry Automotive, the company has confirmed that production of its incredible Spéirling PURE is about to begin, alongside the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Gloucestershire.

The Spéirling project was created by billionaire engineer and inventor Sir David McMurtry, whose goal was to create a car that challenged accepted engineering limits. The result was the McMurtry Spéirling PURE. This is an electric single-seater fan car that has already broken the Goodwood Hill Climb record, as well as becoming the first car to successfully drive upside down!

With over 3000 miles (5,000km) of testing completed with prototypes, the company is now moving from development to production.

“Our father’s philosophy was to seek solutions beyond the known limits, to engineer creatively and freely. That remains our guiding principle today. With Spéirling entering production and McMurtry Technology established to commercialise our innovations, this is an exciting new phase of strategic growth. We have an exceptional team that is dedicated to building a future worthy of his legacy, focused on unparalleled vehicles and technologies that conclusively demonstrate the pinnacle of British engineering.”

A new home for Spéirling production

To support customer car builds, McMurtry has invested in a new 2,700m² production facility in Wotton-under-Edge, England. Operating alongside the company’s existing headquarters, the site provides the space and infrastructure required for Spéirling PURE production, while also allowing for future expansion of McMurtry’s model range.

The first customer Spéirling PURE is scheduled to be handed over in summer 2026, with prices starting from £995,000, plus taxes, shipping and options.

“Our tenth anniversary is a pivotal milestone.  Every day since our inception in 2016, has been exciting and challenging, but mainly exciting.  We are carving out a new category for extremely engaging electric track vehicles.  This has required inventing new technology, plus building a team and facility to realise the dreams of our customers from around the world.  We are really proud we are contributing to the advancement of the industry in a small way and are attracting work from other OEMs to be able to widen the impact of our work via our Technology division too. We cannot wait for the customer cars to be spotted at race tracks around the world.”

Launch of McMurtry Technology

Alongside the production announcement, McMurtry has confirmed the creation of a new innovation arm of the business, McMurtry Technology. Based at the original Swinhay House estate, which will also be expanded, the division has been established to commercialise the intellectual property, processes and engineering expertise developed through the Spéirling programme.

McMurtry Technology will focus on five key areas: Downforce on Demand™, performance battery technology, electric powertrains, vehicle lightweighting and vehicle software. The aim is to enable other OEMs to benefit from the same unconventional thinking that has led to McMurtry Automotive’s success.

What a way to celebrate its 10th anniversary!
