One of the two vintage Aston Martin DB2’s currently undergoing a total ground up restoration here at the Bridge Classic Cars HQ in Suffolk, our 1953 Aston Martin DB2/4 project is moving along quickly.
Steve, one of our restoration technicians, with the help of our technician Ben have been getting the freshly painted bodyshell fitted out with various trims and components, so day by day its looking more and more like a car but each of these milestones requires meticulous and careful adjustments to get them fitted correctly and everything where it should be such as the front grille.

Next up the technicians worked their way through the door ties before they moved onto the clutch linkage under the car. Ben pressed a new bushing into the refurbished arm so make sure that when in situ, it would operate freely before then linking it together with a new return spring, clevis and split pins – as with all of the hardware on the car, the team are using perioud correct British Fine Thread (BFT) hardware as befitting a car of this era.

Going back to the doors of the classic Aston Martin, Ben has completely rebuilt the door lock mechanisms for the car. Cleaning out each individual piece before repainting, regreasing and reassmebling them before they went into the freshly painted doors of the classic GT car, the level of detail that Ben achieves even extended to making sure that the latch section visible on the door jam has been polished. After that, Ben then turned his attention to helping Steve fit the window trims into the car.

Steve could then begin his work under the front clamshell of the car getting some of the brass pipes fitted onto the bulkhead. These were connected the oil pressure guage and washer jets, so they have been thoroughly cleaned and tested before going back onto the car to begin the engine bays transformation along with the rest of the car.
