There’s something magical about using parts from the last ever Jensen 541R to breathe life into one of its siblings. As some of you may know, we’ve welcomed back an old friend ‘303 CNP’ which was the final 541R to leave the Jensen Motors factory in September of 1960 but we also have another 1960 Jensen 541R currently being built here at HQ. This restoration project is coming towards the end of its journey with the team beginning to fit the trims into the car, but during that we discovered the air vents were beyond salvagable.
So, the team removed one of the original vents from 303 CNP and brought it over to our expert fabricator Clinton to make new versions of them – for the first time since around 1960. Clinton used the original piece to create a jig and mold to be able to recreate the bucket shape before individually making the pieces that make up the whole vent assembly. Soon, they’ll be handed over to our paint team to be refinished in black (with one being kept back as a prototype for us to build more in the future if needed) and then put into their correct 541R’s.
