This is the new Lotus Eletre R. It weighs just under 3 tonnes and has been labelled as a “hyper-SUV”. It’s full of tech, has 900bhp, can go from 0 – 62mph in under 3 seconds, and can charge from 10% up to 80% in 20 minutes.

Is it too far removed from the iconic Elise though?


Lotus Eletre R

Built in Wuhan, the Eletre R is positioned as Lotusโ€™s first electric lifestyle vehicle. The idea is that the Eletre moves the Lotus brand into mainstream luxury with genuine performance.

The Standard / S trims model has a dualโ€‘motor setup delivering around 600โ€ฏbhp, 0 – 62โ€ฏmph in 4.5โ€ฏseconds, and a top speed of 160โ€ฏmph.

The Eletre R produces 900โ€ฏbhp via a dual-speed rear motor, goes from 0 – 62โ€ฏmph in around 2.9โ€ฏs and continues up to 165โ€ฏmph.

The 112โ€ฏkWh battery (107โ€ฏkWh useable) supports 800โ€‘volt charging at up to 350โ€ฏkW, charging 10โ€“80% in just 20 minutes. WLTP range reaches around 373 miles in base trims and around 309 miles in the R.


Interior And Practicality

The interior of the Lotus Eletre is made from a range of high-quality materials such as Alcantara, metal switchgear, and recycled textiles. It has a 15.1โ€‘inch central screen, digital dash, headโ€‘up display and passenger touchscreen as well as plenty of space for four adults, and a 688โ€‘litre boot.
