Lots Of Progress

Steve carried out a thorough check of our MGB GT’s braking system. The rear drums were removed, and the brake shoes were cleaned and adjusted. The old brake fluid was drained and replaced with new fluid to ensure proper braking performance.

During the inspection, it was found that the washer jets were loose. To rectify this, the dash vents were removed to allow access, and new nuts were fitted along with shake-proof washers to prevent the jets from working loose again. The driver’s door mirror was also identified as being loose. To tighten the internal tensioning screw, the mirror glass was carefully removed. This adjustment ensured the mirror could still be repositioned as required while holding its position securely.

Additionally, the washer jets had initially come loose, requiring the tightening process mentioned above. The wiper blades were noted to have small rips in the rubber, which may affect their performance. The antifreeze strength was tested and found to be insufficient, as the coolant mixture was nearly plain water, which would need correcting for proper engine protection. Lastly, the driver’s floor mat was loose and had become gathered under the pedals, posing a potential hazard, and will need to be secured to the floor.
