Our recent competition car, the 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1, has been in the Bridge Classic Cars restoration workshops here in Suffolk to have its pre-delivery inspection and final repairs carried out. Although the car was won by Seamus, he has decided to take the cash alternative – a life changing £30,000. However, that doesn’t mean the Bridge Classic Cars workshop team don’t carefully go through the car regardless. Here’s what Jon has been up to:
”Remove drivers door panel. Inspect lock and barrel. Work out why it’s not locking. Adjust mechanism to stop outer handle button being pressed and door opening. Test, OK. Refit door panel and furniture and test again, OK. Remove nearside door panel. Door locks OK but key barrel insecure in door. Found clip laying in bottom of door. Refit clip and test. Refit door panel. Take outside and warm up. Remove spark plugs and clean and regap. Put more fuel in and run up. Adjust carbs until it ticks over OK. Carry out road test. Seems OK, revs hang up a little but the more it’s used the better it seems. Clutch OK, brakes just need bedding in. Return to workshop and adjust idle.”
