Kwik Fit Founder Dies At 84

Sir Tom Farmer, the founder of Kwik Fit has died at the age of 84.

The Edinburgh-born entrepreneur sold his first tyre retail business in 1969, before returning to his hometown two years later and launched Kwik Fit.  

When it began, it was one garage but quickly grew into a global operation. Under Sir Tom’s leadership, Kwik Fit became the largest independent tyre and automotive repair chain in the world, with more than 2,000 centres across 18 countries. The scale and success of the business attracted lots of attention, and in 1999, Sir Tom sold Kwik Fit to Ford in a deal worth over £1 billion.

Sir Tom passed away peacefully at home in Edinburgh on 9th May 2025.
