A rare 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Series Seventy-Five Limousine, first owned by John Entwistle, bassist of The Who, is heading to auction. The classic American luxury car is expected to sell for between £15,000 and £25,000 when it goes up for sale with H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on Wednesday 9th April 2025.

Entwistle imported the Cadillac from the U.S. at the height of The Who’s fame. With only 848 examples ever built, the Fleetwood Series Seventy-Five is a very rare car. What makes it even more special though is that this is the car believed to have inspired Entwistle’s 1973 song Big Black Cadillac.

Photos from the era show the car parked outside Entwistle’s home, as well as on the estate of his bandmate, Keith Moon. Finished in black with matching black leather upholstery, the car remains largely original and is now being offered from a private collection.

“This American classic has lived a fascinating life and if only cars could talk then I’m sure it will have plenty of tales to tell. Of course, with such a close connection to one of the UK’s greatest ever rock bands, I’m sure it will attract much interest from fans and car enthusiasts wanting to own an important piece of classic car culture.”

The auction preview opens for in-person viewing at the Imperial War Museum from midday on Tuesday, 8th April and from 9am on the day of the sale. Bidding will be available in person, online, by telephone, or via commission bids.
