A 1996 Ferrari F355 GTS once owned by Jeremy Clarkson will be available to buy at RM Sotheby’s Cliveden House sale, taking place on 8th July 2025. The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter bought the car new in 1996, famously referring to it as “the best car in the world.” Finished in Rosso Corsa with Crema leather, this targa-top GTS was a regular on British television and even featured in Top Gear Magazine and The Sunday Times. After four years and just 6,000 miles, the Ferrari left Clarkson’s ownership via a newspaper prize giveaway. Estimate: £180,000 – £220,000

Another interesting car for sale at the auction is a 1961 Lotus Elite Series 2, first owned by Soichiro Honda, founder of the Honda Motor Corporation. Exported to Japan, the car’s early life saw it used by racing drivers like Tetsu Ikuzawa and Hirotoshi Honda, before inspiring the Honda S600. Recently restored and now finished in Honda’s Grand Prix White, it’s being offered without reserve.

Another classic Ferrari at the auction is a 1964 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso by Scaglietti. This is a rare right-hand-drive example and is estimated to sell for £950,000 to £1,150,000. There is also a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC by Pininfarina available. This is one of just 22 built in right-hand drive, with Ferrari Classiche certification and its original Oro Nashrullah over Nera colour scheme.

Other attention-grabbing cars include a restored 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, now finished in Konigs Blau and complete with a hardtop, and a 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza Recreation by Jim Stokes Workshops.

If motorsport is more your thing, then you will probably like the 2007 Creation CA07 LMP1 being offered with no reserve. This is a 5.5-litre V10 prototype that is eligible for several historic racing series.
British classics are also well represented, with a 1953 Bentley R-Type Continental Sports Saloon, a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV with a Special Series engine, and a 1970 Aston Martin DBS finished to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service specification.
One of my personal favourites is a 1948 Land Rover Series I, which is the oldest known military example!

In total, 64 vehicles will be for sale at RM Sotheby’s second sale at Cliveden House Hotel in Berkshire.
