Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has reportedly fired Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern after more than two decades with the company.

It’s worth noting though that JLR has not officially confirmed the news.

McGovern was responsible for the design of models like the Range Rover Evoque, the modern Defender, and more recently, the all-electric Jaguar Type 00 concept. He played a big role in shaping JLR’s current design direction and was awarded an OBE in 2020 for his work in automotive design.

His departure from the company comes just days after PB Balaji became JLR’s new CEO, replacing Adrian Mardell. The timing has led to speculation that JLR, now under fresh leadership, may be planning a new direction for its brand and design strategy.

The new Jaguar Type 00 concept, which McGovern oversaw, received mixed reactions and could be part of the reason for the change.
