Isuzu UK showed off the production model of the New Isuzu D-Max EV at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show. This is the first all-electric pick-up in Europe to combine full commercial credentials with zero emissions. It has a payload of over 1,000 kg, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and full-time four-wheel drive.

Electric Workhorse

The D-Max EV is built around the latest generation of Isuzu’s proven pick-up platform, now re-engineered with an electric drivetrain. It’s powered by a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and dual electric motors which produce 140 kW (43 kW at the front, 97 kW at the rear) and 325 Nm of torque (108 Nm front, 217 Nm rear).

Range is rated at around 160 miles (263 km) under the WLTP cycle, and drivers can alter the truck’s performance to suit using its four levels of regenerative braking and Eco Mode. The D-Max EV has, of course, been designed with work in mind. As a result, it has 210mm of ground clearance, approach and departure angles of 30.5° and 24.2° respectively, and a wading depth of up to 600mm.

Customisation

Isuzu will offer the D-Max EV in two trim levels that replicate the popular DL40 and V-Cross models from the diesel line-up. Both trims will be available in Extended Cab and Double Cab formats:

  • D-Max EV (DL40 equivalent): Chrome exterior styling, 8” infotainment display, 7” driver display, Bi-LED headlights, leather upholstery*, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, Rough Terrain Mode, and a 6-speaker sound system.
  • D-Max EV (V-Cross equivalent): Dark grey styling, upgraded 9” infotainment display, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and up to 8 speakers in Double Cab models (6 in Extended Cab). Other features include the same premium interior, Bi-LED headlights, and advanced climate and driver assistance tech.

(*Some materials used in the upholstery may vary.)

The show vehicle was finished in the one-off “Norwegian Blue” paint. However, the official colour options for UK models will be announced closer to launch.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil The New Isuzu D-Max EV here in Birmingham. This model represents a major milestone not only for Isuzu but also for the wider commercial vehicle sector. We have engineered a fully electric pick-up that truly performs in real-world working environments, offering the same towing, payload, and all-terrain capability customers expect from the D-Max. This is a new chapter in the legacy of Isuzu innovation and dependability.”

Yasuhiro Takeuchi, Executive Vice President of Isuzu Motors International Operations (Thailand)

Built For Distance

The D-Max EV benefits from an all-new De-Dion rear suspension, which replaces the traditional leaf spring setup. This update delivers better handling and up to 10% reduction in cabin noise and vibration under full acceleration.

Despite the shift to electric power, the EV keeps the same tough ladder-frame chassis and rough terrain features that have made the D-Max a popular choice as a commercial vehicle.

Charging options include up to 11kW on AC for a full charge in around 10 hours, or rapid DC charging at up to 50kW, giving you a 20% – 80% charge in one hour.

“It’s a huge honour for Isuzu UK to host the premiere of The New Isuzu D-Max EV and to unveil the very first production model here in Birmingham. Showcasing the left-hand drive version at the Commercial Vehicle Show puts us at the heart of this historic launch, and we’re already working with fleet customers to ensure they can begin evaluating the D-Max EV well ahead of the right-hand drive version arriving in early 2026. This milestone represents a major step forward in our electrification journey, and we’re thrilled to be leading the charge here in the UK.”

Alan Able, Managing Director of Isuzu UK
