Another important stage of the interior restoration moved forward as Rachael prepared the first front seat base for our 1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead Coupe. To strengthen the original seat while preserving as much of its existing structure as possible, coconut fibre was used to reinforce the existing foam before the underside webbing was replaced.
The foam pads were then covered in 3mm scrim, creating the correct foundation for the new trim. Rachael then patterned, cut and stitched the seat in both Connolly leather and scrim, before making and fitting the piping. An initial test fit was good, although a small adjustment was needed to achieve the best possible fit before the seat could be completed.
In the paint shop, Mauro has been preparing both the inside and outside of the bonnet for paint.
