Two McLaren MP4-12C supercars are going up for sale at Broad Arrow’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Auction on 24th – 25th May 2025, one owned by Sir Lewis Hamilton and one owned by Jenson Button.

The MP4-12C was McLaren’s first production road car since the incredible F1 of the 1990s. Developed and fine-tuned with direct feedback from Hamilton and Button, the MP4-12C was McLaren’s re-entry into the supercar segment, rivalling established names like Ferrari and Lamborghini with both its engineering and design.

When the MP4-12C launched in 2010, McLaren’s Formula 1 team included two World Champions, Hamilton and Button, who were deeply involved in shaping the car’s final form. Hamilton, for instance, asked for a slimmer steering wheel and a refined paddle-shift mechanism to better replicate his F1 cockpit experience. These changes were incorporated into the production model, showing how hands-on the drivers were in the car’s development.

To acknowledge their contribution, then McLaren team principal, Ron Dennis, personally gifted each driver an MP4-12C. Now, both of these cars are being offered for sale.

“Broad Arrow is extremely proud to have been entrusted to find new owners for these remarkably special McLaren supercars that were owned by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. These two McLaren MP4-12C models have a very special place in motoring history. The two F1 World Champions provided invaluable expertise in the development of the MP4-12C that would not only compete in the market with Ferrari and Lamborghini but would define the future of McLaren Automotive and the models it has produced since. This is a very rare opportunity to own the personal McLaren MP4-12C supercars of Sir Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Created to the specification of each of these F1 World Champions, these two cars feature incredible provenance that spans both the motoring and motorsport worlds.”

Lewis Hamilton’s MP4-12C was registered on 1st March 2012 and was initially delivered to Switzerland before being rerouted to Monaco, where Hamilton had moved. He configured the car himself at McLaren’s headquarters in Woking, England. This early production model has a swipe-to-open door system (this is a feature that was later phased out), and lots of carbon fibre upgrades, including the front spoiler, rear diffuser, and mirror caps, plus the Stealth Pack and optional five-spoke Satin Dark Grey wheels. Hamilton also had the windows tinted after delivery.

Jenson Button’s MP4-12C is finished in Elite Pearl White with a Harissa Red and Black leather interior. It features carbon fibre interior trim, including the steering wheel, and was configured with McLaren Monaco. In 2012, it was sold to a private UK collector and has been there ever since.
