The Bridge Classic Cars team have been back to diving deep into the 1969 Audi 72L. Our technician Jon has been getting the last few pieces of the driveline back together on the car. There’s been a few jobs that the team have been awaiting parts for but as they are now beginning to get delivered to our Suffolk HQ, the team are ticking them off the list.
‘Fit panhard rod and secure. Paint nuts etc. Drill out broken nearside rear brake adjuster. Tap out to 6mm. Fit bolt and mark length. Cut thread down and fit. Apply loctite and secure. Cut off head of bolt down to length. Paint black.’
‘Get radiator cowling from paint and mount to radiator. Fit radiator into engine bay and locate. Not happy with rad security and how close it sits to engine. Make small alloy bracket for top mount to nearside inner wing. Fit bracket and make some neoprene washers to fit between bracket and mount. Now modify rear stay to fit. Redrill and paint.’
‘Fit rad stay now paint dry and secure. Rad now much better. Connect pipes and secure. Go round and tighten all hose clips. Carry out vacuum system refill. Held pressure fine, fill system. Needs new radiator ap. Tidy Ht leads and bend small piece of alloy and cable tie to hold leads.’
‘Get under dash panel and scrub clean with soapy water. Dry off and test fit. It’s in a tired condition and vinyl split at front. Speak to lydiaabout covering front edge. Find push fit clips to fit and order a set to secure panel. Found heater direction cable not connectedto heater. Connect cable and make clamp to hold to heater. Fit bracket and test heater OK.‘
