The Bridge Classic Cars team have been working hard at getting the 1973 Mercedes 250 running correctly. After consulting a specialist on the classic German saloon, the team ordered a new set of carburettors for the car. The old carburettors were removed from the car for our technician Jon to put side by side to the new set and checked over.
Then, Jon could begin his process of getting the new set of carburettors ready to get back onto the manifold and set up for the car.
”Grind out metal heatshield to match gaskets. Bolt down front carb now ive worked out how throttle goes. Swap link arm on carb and secure. Fit throttle link to carb.”
”Bolt down rear carb and swap link. Make pipe to go between carbs. Fit and secure. Fit vacuum pipe to front carb and blank off vac pipe at rear carb.”
”Make and bend metal pipe to use for fuel supply to carbs. Remove fuel return hose and blank off. Use old link rod from one carb to link throttles on carbs. Clean and adjust and fit. Take chaike off and adjust both idles screws half turn after contact. Make extended wires for both electric chokes and connect. Secure fuel feed pipe and filter nearside. Run up. Started OK. Check for leaks. Found lift pump leaking, order new. Adjust front carb choke position. Slight blow from rear exhaust. Raise and reseal rear joint.”
”Fit air filter and take outside. Warm up. Put in another 10ltrs E5 petrol. Carry out road test. Raise idle so when in drive with foot on brake all ok.”
”Checking over After test driving it was noticed there was a slight fuel leak coming from the fuel pump. It turned out to be an internal leak. So a new pump was ordered and fitted. It was then retested to check the fault was cured.”
