Getting the 1970 MGB GT Fighting Fit

Our team have begun the process of assessing the 1970 MG B GT that arrived a few days ago at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. Our technician Jon has been taking the lead on this project.

‘Fit new nearside suspension shock arm and secure. It stainless steel sill/step covers. Remove old glue from rear. Clean and mark. Drill and screww to secure. Bend bonnet secondary catch to align with striker. Tighten bracket holding brake light switch near pedal. Strip and fit new coolant hose from bottom hose to meatal heater pipe on top of engine. Fill with system with new coolant. Tighten steering column clamp at bulkhead. Drain rear diff and remove cover plate. Clean all bolts. Wash cover, rub down and paint black.’

‘Clean and flatten diff cover holes and check. Drain oil and filter. Cut new pipe for radiator overflow pipe. Get P clip and secure to rad mount. Strip rear brakes. Remove offside adjuster and free off in vice. Clean and lube and check operation. Paint diff cover a second time.’

‘Fit new diff cover gasket and secure cover. Leave to set. Refit sump bung with new washer. Fit new oil filter and clean area. Fill with oil and run up. Check level OK. Strip offside rear brake and free off handbrake arm on shoes. Clean and lube backplate, refit shoes, drum and adjust.’

‘Strip nearside rearbrake. Remove wheel cylinder but pipe ends rounded. Cut pipe at both ends and use socket to remove unions. Make new pipe with new ends and fit to car. Fit new wheel cylinder and connect.’
