Here at Bridge Classic Cars, we’re all petrolheads – doesn’t matter what generation we’re from. From classic Ford’s and Mini’s all the way up to relatively new Golf GTi’s and Ford ST’s, we can’t help but be passionate about what fuels us. Just like our technician Steve.
Steve, one of our restoration technicians, has been a Ford fan back to his earliest days so when this what appears to be totally original shell came up around 5 years ago, Steve had plans to rebuild the fast Ford of his youth. But, after getting his hands on the car and looking into it he found the car was just too honest and original to build the hot rod of his teens and early 20’s (the car even still has all its original MOT certificates, original bill of sale and original parts). In its 46 years. the car has only covered a handful over 12,000 miles.
The only change to this time machine, is the engine and some small details. The original numbers matching 1100 unit has been refreshed by Steve and put away on a shelf, but in its place is a slightly hotter 1600 engine that was also built by Steve at home and only done around 500 miles of break in since its build. The interior, is incredible with its original houndstooth coverings (which Steve covers with blankets to stop the pattern from sunbleaching) – a total time capsule! The only others things that are different according to Steve is the centre console which is just in their for the time being and the headlights (originally the car had the square headlights found on some of the Mk2 Escorts).
