50 years ago, the Lotus Esprit S1 made its debut at the 1975 Paris Motor Show. Now, half a century later, British manufacturer Encor has released the first details of the Series 1, its reimagined Esprit.
Built as a tribute to the Esprit S1, the Encor Series 1 retains the visual DNA of the original while upgrading every major component. Only 50 examples will be made and will cost £430,000 (excluding options, taxes and Lotus Esprit V8 Donor Vehicle).

Classic Chassis
While Colin Chapman’s original backbone chassis remains, Encor has replaced the fibreglass bodywork with a new carbon-fibre shell. The result is a lighter and stiffer structure, reshaped with CAD refinement and enhanced aerodynamics. Even the Esprit’s pop-up headlights are back. Although they have now been reimagined as LED projectors.
“In every detail, we act as conservators of Chapman’s ideals,” says Simon Lane, Encor Co-Founder. “Our mission is to elevate the Esprit for a new era without sacrificing its soul. Anyone can modify a car. “What sets us apart is the way we treat the Esprit – not as a project, but as a responsibility. Progress should enhance, not replace.”

Rebuilt From the Inside Out
Each Encor Series 1 starts its life as a donor Lotus Esprit V8. The original engine is rebuilt for improved power, refinement, and everyday drivability. The gearbox and chassis numbers also remain intact, making sure that the reimagined car still holds onto its Lotus heritage.
Updated Cabin
Inside, the Series 1 features a modern take on the Esprit’s driver-focused cockpit. Leather, Alcantara, and machined aluminium make up large parts of the interior, which also features Apple CarPlay, 360-degree cameras, and climate control. The design honours the original’s layout while adding modern usability.
Experienced Hands Behind the Build
Encor’s leadership team brings extensive experience from brands including Aston Martin, Porsche, Koenigsegg, and Lotus. Their past work includes the development of the Lotus Emira and bespoke projects for Q by Aston Martin and Lotus Advanced Performance.
Limited Numbers
The Encor Series 1 is priced from £430,000, excluding taxes, options, and the cost of the donor Esprit V8. Further technical details and imagery are set to be released in November 2025, ahead of the car’s full reveal.
