Will has been putting the storage box back into the rear of our 2010 Land Rover Defender, positioning it to line up with the existing mounting points. As he worked to secure it, he identified spinning riv nuts within the boot floor, which prevented the bolts from tightening correctly. With no safe access for an angle grinder, he used a hacksaw to cut through the bolts and remove the box again.
With access restored, Will drilled out the faulty riv nuts and installed replacements, taking the time to clean the threads on the remaining originals and test their integrity to ensure they would hold securely. Once the area had been tidied following the drilling work, he refitted the storage box using new bolts, aligning it carefully before securing it in place. To protect against corrosion, he painted over the bolt heads once installed.
He then turned his attention to the remaining fixings, wire wheeling old bolts and nuts to clean them before completing the installation of the rear seat and seat belts. With all bolts correctly aligned and secured, Will carried out a final clean-up, leaving the interior of our Defender neat and properly assembled.
