DB6 Welding

Pete continued his work on our 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante by addressing previous poor repairs on the driver’s side rear lower arch and sill area. The damaged section was removed, and a replacement piece was hand-rolled and welded into place. Welding was then removed, and fettling work commenced to refine the repair.

With the vehicle secured to the ramp using straps for maximum safety, all chassis-to-axle connections were unbolted. The rear cross axle brake pipe was removed, along with the prop shaft, rear axle, and arms. The arms were separated from the rear axle, and all fixings were bagged and labelled in preparation for the axle to be sent for a full rebuild and paint.

Further disassembly included the wishbones, springs, ball joints, and anti-roll drop links. The ball joints were found to be in good condition, though the rubber components were deteriorated and listed for replacement. Additional components marked for replacement included the lower wishbone bushes, tie bush, and shock rubbers. All cast parts were designated for powder coating as part of the restoration process.
