Jonn carried out preparatory work on our 1968 Lotus Cortina ahead of the new camshaft installation. New cam bearings were fitted to the cylinder head and thoroughly coated with engine assembly lube, a process repeated across all ten bearings.
The camshaft installation began with the inlet cam, after which the engine was rotated to position the pistons halfway down the bores, ensuring there was no risk of valve contact. The camshaft was then torqued down to 9 lb/ft, and its free rotation was confirmed.
Valve clearances were measured with no shims fitted, and the required shim sizes were calculated accordingly. The process was then repeated for the exhaust cam, with the necessary shim sizes also determined. John will be ordering the required shims.
