Jon, one of our amazing restoration technicians here at Bridge Classic Cars has been hard at work getting the 1966 Jaguar E-Type fighting fit. It isn’t just the rear end of this iconic classic which has had Jon’s magic worked over it, he has also been working the front suspension during this round of works. Here is what Jon has been up to recently here at the Bridge Classic Cars HQ.

”Shot blast offside caliper body and handbrake linkage. Paint both black. Fit new piston to one side and prep brake pipes. Remove axle mount from car and fit to axle frame. Grind back weld stopping me from getting onto the bolt with socket and paint red. Remove all clevis pins rom linkages and clean and lube.

Strip and replace all front upper and lower ball joints. Use shims to adjust play in ball joints and secure. Grease all points on front. Refit wheels and knock up tight. Get back on with rear axle/brakes. Start with nearside. Fit new disc and centralise with shims and secure driveshaft. Fit caliper with new pistons. Connect all brake pipes and fit easy bleed. Fit new pads. Fit new handbrake pads and adjust. Fit and secure. Check still rotates freely, ok.

”Finish nearside rear brakes and move to offside. Repeat rebuilding process. Get caliper, pistons and pipes mounted and secure.

Finish rebuilding brakes and prep for reinstall. Align mounts and secure axle frame to car. Refit anti-roll bar. Adjust handbrake cable. Connect propshaft brake pipe. Top up fluid and bleed brakes. Pedal hard and no fluid being moved. Bleed fronts ok but rears won’t. Check at rear flexi, still nothing. Try at servo rear circuit pipe and still no fluid so suspect servo faulty.

Continued with fitting lower trailing arms and lockwire bolts. Refit exhaust tailpipe and se ure. Tidy area.”
