Red Bull has announced the departure of Christian Horner, ending his two‑decade tenure as Team Principal of Red Bull Racing. Appointed in 2005, Horner led the team to huge success. His leadership secured eight drivers’ championships (four of them with Max Verstappen) and six constructors’ titles, including four with Sebastian Vettel (2010–2013).
In a statement, Red Bull GmbH confirmed Horner’s release from operational duties and introduced Laurent Mekies as the new CEO of Red Bull Racing. The decision follows a somewhat challenging period for Red Bull with a noticeable drop in performance, internal friction, and the fallout from allegations of sexual harassment and coercive behaviour.
The full statement from Red Bull CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments, Oliver Mintzlaff:
“We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years. With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1. Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.”
