The 1996 Bentley Continental R has been over in our secure storage facility for a couple of months waiting for its slot in the workshop. Our restoration technician Jon has been casting his eye over the fast, luxurious 1990’s GT car.
‘Carry out appraisal. Charge battery while I inspect. Offside rear caliper looks wet and hanbrake pads possibly contaminated. Engine and gearbox sweaty but no drips on floor. Spare wheel a different type alloy but same size. Raise and remove offside rear wheel. Remove pads and found piston seals in caliper weeping. Requires new caliper. Clean pads and they look OK. Derust and repaint black.’
‘Refit pads and wheel and lower to floor. Put trims in boot. Inspect front suspension as sits a little low. Look into this. It’s common and Bentley make spacers for the spring seat to raise height up to a maximum of 1 inch. If more height required new springs needed. Wait to get off ramp and suspension settles to measure ride height and check auto box level.’
