Since it recently arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, our 1987 Land Rover Defender 90 V8 has gathered alot of attention. Our technician Jon has been giving the V8 swapped offroader a full check over and carrying out small repairs and maintenance as he goes along.
”Top up gearbox and transfer box. Grease all points. Adjust handbrake (trans brake) shoes. Remove wheels and rear drums. Inspect brakes. Remove passengers seat to access battery. Run up and check alternator. Regulator faulty. Remove rad cowling. Disconnect battery and remove alternator. Lube bonnet cable and lock and test.”
”Refit passengers door lock and test. Remove old battery. Hoover out battery area. Cut a piece of foam to sit under battery. Paint battery hold downs. Fit battery and secure with piece of wood and tighten hold downs. Mark and drill out where remote jump start to be mounted.”
”Secure jump point to panel in front of battery. Connect to battery and secure. Refit cover and refit seat. Clean front brakes and derust discs. Refit ront wheels.”
”Strip and remove nearside door panel. Inspect why door won’t open from inner handle. Fault inside lock. Strip door to remove lock. To remove lock from door , outer ha dle needs to be removed but 1 screw rounded. Grind off screw and remove handle. Drill out seized screw and fit rivnut. Cut new screw to length. Remove lock from door and strip and remove cover. Find fault and bend tang inside to get working. Refit cover and lube.”
