The 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante restoration is going ahead in various departments of the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. Our technician, Steve, has been building up the refinished softtop frame and newly fabricated wooden inserts to get it ready for fitting back into the classic Aston Martin when the time comes.
Alongside Steve doing the framework for the DB6’s softtop, Ben has been busy progressing on the bodywork with the test fitting and final fitment of the front and rear bumpers onto the car, adjusting them all perfectly make sure they’re square and level on the body.
Once the bumpers had been installed onto the car, Ben could begin build up the doors and much of the cars brightwork. Upon fitting the door locks with new replacements, Ben found that they were slightly different to the original set which were on the car. So he polished up the old units before carefully and meticulously put the new brass pins into the barrel and lock.
Whilst Steve and Ben were on top of the mechanical reassmebly, our in-house trimmer Lydia was turning her highly skilled attention to repairing the softtop cover. The original, which is in very good condition, had developed some small tears over the years of being taken on and off the car. So, Lydia has repaired them adding as much of the originality as we can back into the car.
After getting the doors and chromework fitted, Ben could move onto building up the dashboard of the classic Aston Martin. Here’s what Ben has been upto:
”I have fitted parts such as the radio housing, after sound deadening the gearbox tunnel. Connected the wiring and run to the speakers at the back. The knee panels underneath the dash I have stripped and sand blasted fittings and painted. The nearside panel is recovered and the light and air duct have been refitted.”
