Earlier this month, on December 11th, we passed 43 years since the debut of the iconic ’80s detective show, Magnum PI.
Tom Selleck starred as Thomas Magnum, quite possibly the coolest private eye of all time, as he solved cases in Hawaii, where the show was set. Hawaiian shirts, a legendary moustache, and, of course, that Ferrari all combined to make an extremely successful TV show.
Thomas Magnum clearly had style, but his personality was probably even more appealing to viewers of the show. The show portrayed his friendships, his desire to do what’s right, and the adventures he went on while successfully solving cases.
Leonardo Fioravanti, from Pininfarina, was the mastermind behind the design of the 308. It had curved wing tops, attention-grabbing air intakes, and a fibreglass body crafted by Ferrari’s Scaglietti subsidiary before later being swapped out for steel.
The 308 also had removable roof panels that added even more coolness and style. Throughout the ’80s, this V8 mid-engine, two-seater was very well received and became a dream car for many. In fact, it was so popular that Ferrari built more than 12,000 308s between 1976 and 1985.
Following the success of Magnum’s 308 GTS, in 1982, Ferrari launched the 308 GTSi, which had four valves per cylinder, resulting in greater power and speed.
It may have been more than four decades since Magnum, P.I. debuted on TV but, there is no doubt, it still has a huge fanbase.
As we recently launched our 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi on Bridge Classic Cars Competitions, we couldn’t help but put something together as a nod to Magnum himself.
The video below was one that we filmed but, ultimately, didn’t use to promote the launch of the competition to win our 308 GTSi. However, we feel that Molly pulls off the coolness and style so well that we need to share it.
Two of our competition cars have been under the care of classic car technician Jonn recently.
First up is our 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi, which is currently live on the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions website. Jonn has now fitted the new front and rear number plates in preparation for our classic Ferrari to be won in the new year.
Jonn has also been completing the pre-delivery inspection of our 2015 Jaguar F-Type which will soon be delivered to the lucky winner and new owner, after winning this beautiful car on Tuesday.

With a 2.9-litre fuel-injected V8 and the signature ‘dogleg’ manual gearbox, our 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi has the beating heart of a thoroughbred to match its sporting Pininfarina designed good looks.
Originally delivered to UK Ferrari dealer Modena Engineering Ltd through the legendary Maranello Concessionaires in Surrey in January of 1984, this 308 GTSi was built at the legendary Ferrari workshops in Maranello, Italy in November of 1983 after being ordered in July of that year– confirmed by Tony Willis of the Maranello Concessionaires Archive.
Included in the beautiful Burgundy leather bound history file (which has a highly polished plaque proudly displaying the cars chassis number) includes a copy of the cars original order form which includes the car being specified with optional air conditioning. Along with this wonderful piece of the cars story, is a detailed service history print out from the Ferrari Owners Club. The folder includes correspondence and invoices dating back to the earliest days of the cars life.
In 2023, various works were carried out Haynes Heritage Engineering which included repairs to the sills and several areas of paintwork being rejuvenated.

Jonn has been finishing his inspection on our 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi.
He checked the brakes, refitted the wheels, inflated the tyres and torqued the wheel nuts.
Jonn then tightened the screws in the nearside rear light and cleaned and tightened the connection to the nearside number plate light and tested.
The door mirror switch was glued in before Jonn adjusted the tangs inside the cigarette lighter, to get the lighter to stay in. He also dropped the rear anti-roll bar, taped up the bar where it was worn and refitted the bushes.
Before our 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi is taken out to film in preparation for it to go live on Bridge Classic Cars Competitions, classic car technician Jonn has been giving it a once over.
After checking all levels, he attended to the broken nearside door mirror. He swapped parts from the donor mirror and mounted/secured it to the car.
Jonn then removed both number plates and attached the WIN ME plates before using panel wipes to remove excess glue.
At the NEC Classic Motor Show 2023, Craig purchased the latest addition to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, our 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole.
After buying the car, we collected it from the NEC and it is now safely in The Ateiler at Bridge Classic Cars.
Once it has been checked over by the workshop team, it will be ready to be won by a very lucky individual in the next few weeks.
