We have so much going on at Bridge Classic Cars Competitions right now; cars coming in, cars going out, cars finding new homes, cash alternatives flying about all over the placed. It’s difficult to keep up!
So I thought I’d do a weekly round up of all competition car updates for you. I’m really sorry if you come on to read about one specific car (which I know a lot of you do) but I just thought I’d be a bit different today. Normal updates will follow…
2024 MG Cyberster
Our 2024 MG Cyberster, one of the very first models to arrive in the UK was won last week by Paul Butcher. Paul opted for the cash alternative of ยฃ45,000 which is an incredible sum of money just before Christmas. Being one of the first MG Cybersters to arrive on UK soil and being one of the most important EV’s to be released, this car is certainly set to be one for the future. A very special car indeed and now in the hands of EMG MG to sit as pride of place in their Ipswich showroom.
Available now if you want to get the keys to your own Cyberster in time for Christmas! Contact EMG MG for more information.
1987 Maserati BiTurbo
We can not wait for this car to be ready. The Maserati has been in our possession for many many years and is a genuine 11,000 mile car. Since taking ownership of this incredible car the values have soared, especially in the hard top models.
We are currently recommissioning the car and as it has been standing for some time this is not a 5 minute job, but will be well worth it when it’s complete.
We have stripped and cleaned the plenum chamber, inlet manifold and rocker covers ready for painting.
The carburettor has been removed from the inlet, we’ve cleaned out the float chamber and freed off the needle valve. Blow out jets and reassemble.
The rest of the parts have been removed from the manifold. to be degreased.
Make new seal with O-ring kit and refitted the manifold bottom water chamber.
We have flattened and polished the car.
The badge and lettering is now back on the car as well as the rear light and number plate.
Jon has finish preparing the parts for painting. He has cleaned the throttle and choke spindles.
The manifold has been masked up before being given to the body shop.
1968 Ford Lotus Cortina
Next up, our 1968 Ford Lotus Cortina in for a full appraisal on the workshop floor.
Swap wires from coil and ballast. Electronic ignition fitted and wired to coil 12v. Coil wired through ballast at 6v. We’ve swapped the wires from ballast to coil to 12v feed. Tighten steering idler bolts.
Next up, we’ve put the car up on the ramp to continue with our assessment.
The rear rear wheels have been removed to check the brakes. Nearside rear wheel bolts loose and wheel holes now elongated and won’t tighten so requires a new wheel.
We’ve fitted smaller nyloc nut to nearside trailing arm so bolt actually goes into nyloc.
There is a fuel leak from fuel tank sender area so we have drain the fuel. We’ve used the fuel pumps on the car to empty the tank. Next up, we’ve remove the sender, cleaned and tested. Removed the spark plugs and cleaned out holes. Cleaned and regapped before refitting the plugs.
Remove battery from boot and start to re-route the fuel pipes to pumps.
Continue re-routing the fuel pipes to pumps in the boot area. Drill and fit p-clips to floor, to hold pipe in place.
Refit battery and secure. We have slackened the alternator belt and checked waterpump and all is ok. Unbolt pulley and refit fan blades. Refit alternator belt and adjust. Remove driver’s seat and carpets. Fit fibre washer to ignition barrel and secure. Strip and fit new rear shoes but clip missing from offside so unable to finish.
Next, we have tested the repaired fuel sender and all seems to be ok.
Remove passengers seat and carpet. Start stripping to remove heater box.
Still more to do on our Cortina in preparation for filming. We have drain the coolant, remove some extra items attached to dash so we can finish removing the heater box.
Once removed, we have strip the heater box and removed the heater radiator.
Tested the radiator and found a split in the seam causing it to leak. With it removed, we are now able to tidy up the area.
And for now, we are up to date on competition cars!

Filming the Cyberster with Nick was really eye-opening, it was an extremely exciting shoot as it was far more technical than normal, I even got a chance to help make the movie magic.
We filmed this EV much later in the day, we normally crave the light but this time Nick wanted it to try something very different and this needed the darkness. Which meant after the live draw we headed over to the finishing room when it was pitch black. Nick created an eerie atmosphere with our studio lights and has captured some haunting images by using this brilliant technique.
As the Cyberster is our first ever all electric competition car Nick wanted to show this through capturing the car with what looks like bolts of electricity surrounding it. He created this look which ooses elegance by using the long exposer setting on his camera and also having Nick and I not so elegantly running around the car with our Phone Touches.
It was another brilliant shoot and Nick has once again created some beautiful art perfectly showing off all the Cyberster’s fabulous attributes.
This is a stunning car,I’ve been trying to win one of these on BOTB spot the ball competition. But now you have one how could I resist and no sweating over where that pesky ball is!
It’s great that you’ve chosen a modern car fully electric. This will hold its value well I think if the winner can keep the miles low!! It’s an absolute beauty of a car. Who designed it for MG? It’s a Chinese made car now if I’m not mistaken?? The Chinese car manufacturers are really producing some amazing vehicles,I just wish we had more of them over here.
I would drive around Scotland if I won this beauty and just enjoy that road trip from Salisbury up to my daughters house in Scotland then set off from there. I would try and film it too if I could.
But whoever does win it then I hope they enjoy every single mile driven in it. Good luck to all ๐
My first sports car in 1969 was an MG. British racing green, wire wheels. Can’t forget it!!
On Saturday, we welcomed Darren and Anthony from EMG Ipswich to Bridge Classic Cars, as we teamed up to host our MG Cyberster Test Drive Day. Based at The Classic Lounge, the day was all about giving people the opportunity to experience what could very well be the future of electric sports cars.
The Cyberster, MGโs eye-catching electric roadster, looked great surrounded by classic cars and out on the road. We had two examples available on Saturday, a Camden Grey example that was on static display (this is my personal favourite colour choice) and a Dynamic red version that was taken out by around 20 people for test drives throughout the day.
The main feedback that was given about the car…it’s fast…very fast!
It’s not just about its speed though. I was fortunate enough to take the Cyberster out for a drive and I found it incredibly easy to drive. For a car that sounds so complex and sophisticated, I was expecting to work hard behind the wheel but, in fact, it was an extremely relaxed and comfortable drive. The only thing to be careful of is that you can quite easily find yourself going very fast in a very short period of time!
It was a fantastic experience to be surrounded by both the past and the future of MG as we had a collection of classic MGs (and others) on display alongside the Cyberster. I really enjoyed the conversations about the potential future of the automotive industry and how EVs, like the Cyberster, might fit into that.
Anthony and Darren were on hand to provide detailed insights into the technical aspects of the Cyberster, guiding guests through the car’s features, battery life, charging options, and performance stats. This collaborative event marks what I hope is an ongoing relationship between Bridge Classic Cars and EMG Ipswich, as bringing the classic and modern motoring worlds together is something that is an exciting prospect.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along and took the Cyberster out for a drive. We hope you enjoyed the experience and we hope that we will see you all again very soon.
Another thank you to Anthony and Darren for joining us on Saturday and for demonstrating what the Cyberster can do!
Yesterday, some of the team at Bridge Classic Cars had the pleasure of spending the day at MG Ipswich for an exclusive first look at the much-anticipated MG Cyberster. The day was a combination of the old and the new, as we joined the celebration of 100 years of MG by having some of our classic MGs in the showroom alongside the Cyberster.
We arrived in our selection of classic cars – our 1955 MG Magnette, 1968 MGC, and 2003 MG ZT V8. These all looked very much at home in the shiny showroom.
Some of our members made the trip to see the Cyberster for themselves. They, like us, were extremely keen to get a look at the car that has been making waves in the automotive world as of late. The event was a fantastic opportunity for us all to share nostalgic stories of classic cars as well as talk about the future of MG and the potential of the Cyberster.
The MG Cyberster is a car that not only looks stunning but also has the potential to change the perception of EVs. I think the best way of describing the Cyberster is by calling it a bold statement from MG. A statement that says they are a brand looking to the future with the understanding of the foundation built on the cars of the past.
Naming the Cyberster completely different to classic MGs, designing it from the ground up, and having subtle nods back to the past looks to make it an EV that looks and feels different to a typical EV.
At first glance, the Cybersterโs design is striking. Itโs a low-slung, sleek roadster that immediately conjures up images of MGโs classic roadsters but with a very modern (futuristic?) twist. The aggressive front end, with its sharp LED headlights and aerodynamic lines, gives it a futuristic feel, while the long bonnet and sweeping curves pay homage to MGโs past.
This all-electric roadster is powered by a high-performance battery pack, delivering instant torque and blistering acceleration. The figures are extremely impressive with a 0-60 mph time of under 3 seconds and a top speed that comfortably exceeds 120 mph (GT version). But itโs not just about speed; the Cyberster is designed to be a driverโs car, with responsive steering, a balanced chassis, and a suspension setup that promises to deliver an exciting yet comfortable ride.
So, whatโs it like to sit behind the wheel of the MG Cyberster? Even before you start driving, itโs clear that this is a car thatโs been designed with the driver in mind. The interior is a blend of high-tech features and luxury materials, with a layout thatโs both intuitive and stylish. The digital dashboard is a centrepiece, offering a range of customisable displays that provide everything from navigation to performance data.
The seats are supportive and comfortable and the faux-leather trim adds an extra element of style and luxury to this incredibly fast car. A personal favourite for me is the scissor doors. This seemed to be a big talking point yesterday so I’m looking forward to seeing the reaction of the first round of owners.
The day at MG Ipswich was a huge success, but it was just the beginning. Weโre already looking forward to a day in the next few weeks when weโll be offering test drives of the MG Cyberster. This will be a unique opportunity for our members and guests to experience the car firsthand, and to feel the power and precision that weโve been raving about.
Weโll be hosting a full-day event, complete with more classic cars, and of course, plenty of chances to get behind the wheel of the Cyberster.
The MG Cyberster is a bold move by MG to embrace the future while honouring its rich heritage. For those of us at Bridge Classic Cars, itโs a reminder that while we keep the past alive, weโre also excited about what the future holds. And if the Cyberster is any indication, that future is bright, fast, and incredibly exciting.
MG is set to continue its centenary celebrations at the 2024 Salon Privรฉ event, held at Blenheim Palace from August 28th to 31st. As part of these celebrations, MG will present the brand new MG Cyber GTS Concept, making one of its first public appearances after its surprise debut earlier this summer. The concept car pays tribute to the iconic MGC GTS Sebring, which achieved MG’s best-ever factory result at the 1968 12 Hours of Sebring.
Finished in classic British Racing Green, the MG Cyber GTS Concept combines its historic predecessor while incorporating modern electric vehicle technology. The carโs exact technical details are still under wraps, adding to the anticipation surrounding its appearance at Salon Privรฉ.
Alongside the Cyber GTS Concept, MG will also display the Cyberster Roadster. This electric roadster, which has just arrived in showrooms, offers impressive performance with its dual motor version boasting 503 bhp and a 0-62 mph time of just 3.2 seconds. The Cybersterโs long-range battery allows for up to 316 miles on a single charge, with prices starting from ยฃ54,995.
โMG is a much-loved brand by so many Salon Privรฉ enthusiasts, and Iโm delighted weโre able to help continue its 100thย anniversary celebrations in the regal grounds of Blenheim Palace. MG Motorโs all-electric Cyberster roadster has been given the title of โBest Sports Carโ at the 2024 Best Cars of the Year Awards. This recognition means that the Cyberster will be celebrated at The British Motor Show, running from 15th -18th August, where it will be displayed on the Best Cars of the Year stand.
The international judging panel commended the MG Cyberster for its groundbreaking design, strong sustainability focus, and impressive electric performance. These qualities set it apart as a clear winner in its category.
The Cyberster also gained attention for its high level of comfort and its state-of-the-art interior, which features a wrap-around three-screen cockpit, creating a modern and immersive driving experience that puts the driver at the heart of the action.
Available in both single and dual motor configurations, the Cyberster delivers exceptional performance. The dual motor Cyberster GT, for example, boasts an impressive 503PS (375kW) and 725Nm (535 lb ft) of torque.
With multiple driving modes, the Cyberster offers a tailored driving experienceโfrom relaxed motorway cruising in Comfort mode to a more exciting drive with enhanced power in Sport or Supersport mode. The all-wheel-drive GT accelerates from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds, making it MGโs fastest production car to date.
Fitted with a 77kWh battery, the Cyberster offers up to 316 miles of range (276 miles for the GT), and supports rapid charging up to 150kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in just 38 minutes.
Mike Rutherford, Founder and Chair of the Best Cars of the Year Awards, said: โThose who have already seen the bright yellow Cyberster on the Best COTY stand on the opening day of The British Motor Show this week will confirm the car somehow looks even better, classier and more handsome in the flesh than it does in photographs.
โStarting at under ยฃ55,000 it offers truly unbeatable value for money. It looks like a supercar – but is in the same price league as some comparatively dull hatchback EVs from rival manufacturers.โ
David Allison, Head of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK, said: โThe journey of the MG Cyberster, from concept to reality, has been met with overwhelming excitement. The positive reception from both the media and our customers has been incredible. Weโre honoured to receive such high praise from the โBest Cars of the Yearโ judging panel.โ
MG hosted a special preview event where the brand showed off a pre-production design model of its brand-new all-electric roadster – The Cyberster. With a release expected in the summer of 2024, a new chapter in the MG story is being written as the iconic manufacturer returns to its roots with this exciting new sports car.
The Cyberster made its debut at the event held at the MG Motor UK headquarters in Marylebone, London. It was there that advanced design director, Carl Gotham and team โ who played a key role in creating the Cyberster โ introduced the model for the first time.
Carl said โIt is a special moment for all of us who have played a part in designing this unique car. The Cyberster will offer MG customers a striking, all-electric roadster which will be as exciting as MG sports cars of the past.โ
To mark the upcoming release of the Cyberster, MG has released a film which helps tell the story of the work that went into designing and creating a sports car that is set to be the very first all-electric roadster on the market.
Inspired by MGs heritage, the Cyberster has the distinctive long bonnet, a low nose, and plenty of curves. In addition to the recognisable features that indicate the car’s MG lineage, new features such as scissor doors and a Kammback rear design bring a classic design into a stylish new future.
The creation of the Cyberster marks MG’s return to sports car production. Not only does the Cyberster do this in attention-grabbing fashion, but it also brings the MG story right up to date and allows for another generation of drivers to enjoy this iconic British brand.
