A Win And A Delivery In No Time

On Tuesday (6th February), Keith Stoddart was the lucky winner of our 1989 Ford Fiesta XR2 when his ticket number, 4198 was randomly selected by Google’s random number generator.

Keith lives up in Scotland, almost 400 miles away from the Brideg Classic Cars workshop here in Suffolk.

However, we have a wealth of experience transporting vehicles so, just over 24 hours later, Tony was pulling up at Keith’s house and handing him the keys to his new car.

Tony said it was a beautiful drive across the Pennines and was welcomed to Scotland with snow! On his way, he even managed to stop in an appropriately named shop to look for a memento or two.

It was quite late in the day when Tony finally arrived at the car’s new home but, as lucky winner Keith said, “It was well worth the wait”

Competition Repairs

Jonn has been making some repairs on our 1989 Ford Fiesta XR2. His notes are below:

Check brakes for any issues. Bleed full system and found lots of air in rear circuit’s. Pedal feel definitely improved. Top up reservoir. Refit rear wheels and torque up. Check auto choke mechanism. Looks OK. Refit and adjust. Choke now on as car cold. Take outside run up and carry out road test. Temp gauge only goes to top of cold section and drops again when driven. Return to workshop as choke still not coming off. Car also has a flatspot under hard acceleration. Strip and remove carb and clean out. Check diaphragms etc. Reassemble and refit. Set choke housing. It suddenly dawned on me that choke will not come off as carcisnt getting hot enough, suspect thermostat. Drain coolant. Strip and remove thermostat housing. Found thermostat broken and permanently open. Clean mating surfaces ready for new thermostat. Adjust steering as wheel was out to right when in straight line.

Carry out pdi whilst in workshop. Still waiting for rear wiper motor and thermostat.

Fit new thermostat to housing and refit housing to engine with new gasket. Connect pies and refill system with saved coolant. Are outside and run up to temperature. Check auto choke coming off when warm. Set idle and mixture. Set fast idle speed. Refit air filter and carry out road test. Stop to adjust steering twice and return to workshop.

Go into competition workshop and fit new rear wiper motor. Connect and test, ok. Secure mounting and refit wiper arm. Test, all ok. Refit boot lid trim panel with new clips.

Repairs

Jonn has been doing some work on our 1989 Ford Fiesta XR2 in preparation for it to be won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions very soon.

He stripped the boot before manufacturing a mounting bracket for the rear washer bottle. This was riveted together and then riveted in place in the boot.

Jonn then cut to size and fit the heat exchange pipe between the exhaust manifold and air filter. He then fitted a grommet to hole in the dash under switches. Next was fitting the edging trim to the engine mount to protect the coolant hoses from chaffing.

A cable tie clip was fitted to the offside inner wing to secure coolant hoses before Jonn removed the nearside rear fog light to investigate why it was not working. He found that the wires and holder had completely corroded away. As a result, Jonn stripped the light and tested the bulb before soldering the wires directly to the bulb and refitting.

Next, our XR2 was raised on the ramp so Jonn could finish his inspection and report. He painted the frame for the rear washer bottle in position in the boot. He then checked and inflated the spare tyre and secured it in the boot.

Jonn then went on to strip the rear brakes so he could check and adjust the shoes. The drums were refitted and regreased and both rear wheel bearings were adjusted.

Just gone live but you’re going to want to be quick! Our 1989 Ford Fiesta XR2

The Ford Fiesta XR2 represents an important part of many early petrolheads stories โ€“ Those first forays into making their cars truly unique and stand out from the crowd in the battle of who would be king of the car park.

Hailed as the blue ovals first attempt at a hot hatch, the XR2โ€™s production would run from June of 1984 until April of 1989.

Fitted with the 1.6-litre engine from the Escort XR3, the XR2 would bring a new sense of performance to the smallest car in the Ford range thanks to nearly 100hp and the XR2โ€™s lightweight of only 840KG alongside new more aggressive styling โ€“ Allowing many budding petrolheads to put their own personal stamp on their cars in the 1990โ€™s.

Our 1989 Ford Fiesta XR2 is finished in the classic shade of Diamond White with its signature โ€˜rainbowโ€™ cloth interior and has just completed a recent nut and bolt restoration bringing the car back to the style of the early to mid-1990โ€™s.

First registered by Trimoco Ford in Chelmsford on the 7th of April 1989, our XR2 is one of the final cars to be delivered to customers before the change over to the Mk3 Fiesta later that year โ€“ The history file contains an early Ford assurance certificate dated 7th of April 1989 as well as the cars original handbooks and service records.

This is your chance to relive those glory days for just a few pounds!

But hurry! The launch sale price of just ยฃ4.50 ends at 3pm Friday 26th January 2024… Don’t miss out and get yours now.

A Big Delivery

This morning, we were very excited to see the latest batch of vehicles arrive at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

After Craig and Gordon’s successful day at the Classic Car Auctions Christmas Sale, we welcomed our 1963 Vauxhall Victor, 1989 Ford Fiesta XR2, 2000 Peugeot 306, and 1993 Bentley Turbo R.

1963 Vauxhall Victor FB Series

Our Vauxhall Victor will be assessed by the workshop team before it will eventually go live on Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

1989 Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk2

Another fast Ford to come into the workshop, our Fiesta XR2 will soon be available to win through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

2000 Peugeot 306 Cabriolet S

This one won’t be a competition car, unfortunately. The reason for this is that this is now part of Craig’s collection. After always wanting a 306 Cabriolet when he first passed his test, but being unable to afford one, he can now say he has one of his own.

1993 Bentley Turbo R

Our Bentley Turbo R will be joining Gordon’s collection. It’s a great looking car and we are looking forward to seeing it out on the road around the workshop.
