Boreham Motorworks has revealed the Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition, a continuation of the British Saloon Car Championship-winning 1968 and 1969 Alan Mann Racing Ford Escort Mk1. Limited to just 24 hand-assembled examples, the car is built with the same passion and engineering innovation as the original race car. Each one also has a numbered continuation chassis from both Ford Motor Company and Alan Mann Racing.

Reverse-engineered and built entirely in-house, the Alan Mann 68 Edition comes completely track-ready, including an FIA Historic Technical Passport.

The Alan Mann 68 Edition is the first entry into Boreham Motorworks’ new ‘Ultra Series,’ which focuses on historically accurate recreations. Owners of these exclusive vehicles will be invited to participate in race events and driver training, supported by dedicated Alan Mann Racing pit crews, at locations across the UK and internationally.

Born from the development process of Boreham’s upcoming Ford Escort Mk1 RS road car, the Alan Mann 68 Edition is an exact replica of the original competition vehicle. Every detail has been digitally recreated using modern CAD techniques, based on the championship-winning Escort Mk1 driven by Frank Gardner (XOO 349F).

Manufacturing is managed across Boreham Motorworks’ UK facilities, with initial CAD development in Coventry, body production and paintwork at Newton Aycliffe, and final assembly at Alan Mann Racing HQ in Surrey, not far away from where the original cars were built in the 1960s.

The Alan Mann 68 Edition features a 1.8-litre Twin Cam engine producing 205PS, paired with a four-speed bullet gearbox and has a dry weight of just 795kg.

The suspension system mirrors the original’s setup, built under the guidance of Ford GT40 engineer Len Bailey and fabricated by Jim Rose, who has returned to recreate the key components for the 68 Edition. A rigid rear axle, Watts linkage, and period-correct braking and wheel systems complete the mechanical package.

Visually, the car revives the wide bubble arches and red and gold Alan Mann Racing livery. Buyers can choose between two specifications: the ‘Period Correct’ version, built to original FIA Group 5 regulations, or the ‘Modern Race’ version, fitted with contemporary safety equipment for historic racing.

“My father always believed that the key to success in motorsport was an unrelenting pursuit of precision engineering, innovation and the constant obsession of lightweight solutions. The Alan Mann 68 Edition is a testament to that philosophy, capturing the spirit of the original in every detail. To bring this car back to life is a privilege, and one we have undertaken with the utmost respect for its heritage.”

Henry Mann, Managing Director of Alan Mann Racing

Only 24 units of the Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition will be produced, with first customer deliveries starting in August 2025.
