Corvette Has A New Home

Last night our 1979 Chevrolet Corvette was won by Lee Bache with his lucky ticket number 387. Our beautiful Red beast will be off to Southampton in the foreseeable future where we know it will look great driving those New Forest roads.

Lilac Jensen Perfections

Gordon’s (soon to be) Lilac Jensen 541R is currently being prepped for paint. Trevor is smoothing out any bumps and cracks as well as applying spray on primer and filler before the first layers of paint is applied.

Claret Interior For The Mercedes 500SL

Craig has recently decided on a colour for the interior of his 1987 Mercedes 500SL. The trim shop has just started tackling the trim which will be done in a Claret red.

Lydia has been prepping the windscreen panels for recovering, which have been done in the claret leather. The sanding and filling of the front window panels has been completed, allowing for Lydia to get started on the next step. The cover is first marked out in paper, then leather and then sewn and glued together.

We’ve sent off the chrome to be re-worked and polished at Tony Wyatt Polishing. Once these come back clean and new, we can set them aside to be re-fitted once the car is painted.

Across The Colour Wheel

Our 1979 Arrow Ferrari Daytona replica has some big colour related changes coming it’s way. It’s been sat comfortably in a stunning red however shades of green are on the horizon that is sure to turn passers-by a similar shade of envy.

We understand that the exterior colour is likely to be an Aston Martin Sage Green which means the interior is likely to be a similar shade to match. As it stands, the choices are likely to be between the patches below.

We’re excited to see this what this already stunning red Ferrari Daytona will look like after it’s dramatic jump across the colour wheel.

Alfa Arrival

Yesterday we welcomed this beautiful 1972 Alfa Romeo Spider Series 2 into our hanger as this lovely motor will soon be up for sale.

Coated in a stunning orange with a summer-appropriate soft top, this Alfa is the perfect car for cruising down the country lanes during the summer or taking a scenic road trip around Monaco. This spritely orange beauty has an aroma of youth and holds the perfect key to relive the golden age of cruising sports cars.

Sean Connery’s 1986 BMW 635 CSI Could Be Yours

Back in 2020, we lost an iconic 007. Sir Sean Connery sadly passed away last year but his 1986 BMW 635 CSI is now up for auction with estimations of its sale going for between £30,000 to £60,000. The current bid, (at the time of this article – 10:15 am) is sat at £31,250 but we expect that figure to continue to rise until bidding closes at 19:30 tonight.

This stunning BMW 635CSI would be the ideal motor so someone wanting to test the waters of the high performance modern classic car world.

It is believed that Sean Connery owned this BMW 6 series 1989/90 and then sold it in 1998 and the low mileage could be attributed to the fact that Mr Connery was rather busy staring in multiple Hollywood blockbusters during that time. Since then, the car has been stored in several storage units and made brief appearances under different dealerships.

Although we haven’t worked on the exact same model, we have worked on this 1988 BMW 635CSI that came in back in 2018 for an interior trim freshen up!

The post-1982 BMW 6 series adopted the E28 chassis from the previous BMW 5 series which lead to improvements in the mechanics of the car as well as enhancements to its interior and exterior. This model also suits anything from the school run to tackling winding country roads. The reliability and graceful ageing of this car is all down to the solid and reliable engineering that the older models offer.

Ferrari Daytona’s First Steps

Scott has been working on preparing the Daytona door frames by welding the bottom to correct the rust damage. He’s essentially grounding out the rotten parts before we send it off to chrome.

Here’s a closer look at the Daytona engine we have sat here waiting to be installed. This huge piece of machinery is what gives the Daytona its iconic power.

Tom has been stripping down the rear axel by cleaning and preparing it to be refurbished.

Scott has removed and repaired the sash on the door glass as it was rotten. It was then painted it and bonded it back onto the glass. Scott then cut any rotten bits out of the door frame and welded in some new metal and then got it ready for chrome. Scott has also removed the door handles and got them ready for chrome.

Scott has also removed the complete front axle assembly and the radiator to start checking over to see what needs to be refurbished.

Corrosion Corrections For The TR5

James has been working in the fabrication bay to prepare the Triumph TR5’s windscreen. The front screen surround frame has corroded in the lower right-hand corner. He did this by cutting out the old rusty metal and old fibreglass to then fabricate and repair those sections. James cut away the rusty metal and replaced sections by applying a new coat of Zinc spray in place to protect inside the frame in the future. After applying the zinc spray, James welded the replacement in place, he then grinds, cleans and spot welds it all back together. The last step is to replace the metal channel that holds the sealing rubber.

We’ve also fixed the TR5 handbrake by welding in a replacement metal component as seen in the images below.

Ady’s Project: The Vauxhall Chevette Rebuild

Ady has been working on his own project car, a Vauxhall Chevette which he is rebuilding himself. He’s currently working on the limited-slip differential.

Ady’s plan is to fit a Ford engine and a Ford Escort rear axel to support it. This Vauxhall will be an entire custom build rally car. He’s first doing a trial run of the build to work out what he need buy, fix and make before he builds properly. Ady has a long history in rally and kit car racing so he’s quite the expert. We can’t wait to see the final car!

Valuations, Proposals and New Finds

We often get approached with enquiries about valuing, buying and selling cars as well as our usual restoration services. Some end up in business and others go their separate ways. We’ve had quite a few leads come in recently, its all business as usual at Bridge!

We had an enquiry from an individual about restoring their beautiful 1936 Ford Model Y, which we approved. We’re currently waiting to hear back about the next steps on this Ford. Watch this space!

New Doors For Our Peony Jensen

Brian from our trim shop has been working on creating more interior fittings for our 1960 Peony Red Jensen 541S. The first steps in creating new door panels were to remove the old metal from the door panel board and make new panels from hardboard. The metal has been cut out and riveted, ready to be put in place. Brian then glued some foam to the door panel, cut out new leather and glued the sewn door panel to the leather panel. Once the parts were fixed together, Brian then turned the edges over. The next step was to then cut out the leather for the infill panel and glue that to the door panel.

A new armrest has also been fitted to the door panel. Brian removed the old cover from the armrest and made a new one, including new foam and a new pocket. Fresh piping has been fitted to the top edge of the pocket and foam support added. Chrome has then been added to the armrest trim.

Chris has removed the door skins from the door frames ready to have the paint taken off sandblasted. This is to combat the corrosion found inside the doors. Once this is completed, epoxy primer is applied inside and out. The bonnet and boot have been lined up and rubbed down as well. Holes have been marked out on the boot and are ready to re-drill.

James has removed both Aluminium door skins from the steel frames to work on the corrosion too. We will be using modern materials to avoid corrision occurring in the future rather than the original strips of canvas fabric to act as a barrier.

Here you can see the conditions of the door panels which are showing serious signs of corrosion and rust damage, including a series of holes appearing along the edge.

Another Jensen In The Workshop

We weren’t kidding when we said we’re Jensen specialists! We’ve welcomed another beautiful Jensen into the workshop this week. This 1959 Silver Jensen 541R has come in for a diagnosis on the engine.

We’ve assessed the vehicle and have discovered a list of faults including the need for new core plugs, new rocker shaft and for an oil leak to be corrected. We’re are glad to find that the engine starts despite the faults. We are currently in conversation to see if the client wants the engine to be taken apart and refurbished or not.

After speaking to the client, we’ve decided to start addressing the faults without carrying out a full engine rebuild as this car will soon be used as an everyday car. Ady, out engine specialist, has had the car up and running as well as removing the old core plugs, cleaning the waterways and fitting new core plugs/

Competition Winners

Our VW Beetle was won before Christmas by Colin and Jan Knight. Colin’s winning ticket was number 32. This lovely Beetle is safely stored with us over the winter. A great win for a lovely local couple.

Jaguar MKVII’s Quick Start

Our engine specialist Ady has rewired the Jaguar MKVII allowing it to run. This has been done by running the battery wire to the coil as there is a break in the loom meaning there’s no feed to the coil.

Check-In For The Navy Jensen

The 1961 Navy Jensen 541S is up and running for now however we are waiting on the client to see if they would like any more refurbishments done as this Jensen has been their own project which we’ve helped out on. It currently doesn’t have any brakes and there are a handful of other components missing that need fitting. Watch this space!

Much like our Jaguar MKVII, Ady had to link the battery to the coil to get the Jensen started as there was a diagnosed wiring fault between the ignition and the coil.

Austin Nippy’s Piston Problem

Our 1934 Austin Seven Nippy had an issue with rattling pistons that were needing to be bored. We’d sent the components off to Coltec to be pressure tested and bored so that the liner and piston sit in the Austin engine better.

Wheels On The Road

Both the Morris Minor 1000 and the Peugeot 504 have had their road tests to check how they’re running. They’re both currently being stored up at our hangar to keep them safe and out of the way now all their major refurbishments have been completed. Both ran their road tests fine with only a few minor teething problems.

Carburettor Corrections

Our 1958 Navy Jensen 541R has recently been up and running however we noticed that there was a petrol leak in the float of the carburettor as well as a leak in the clutch pipe. Once these elements have been repaired, we can take this Jensen out onto the road to see how it drives. This beautiful Jensen will soon be up for sale so keep your eyes peeled!

Last week Darren focused on polishing and correcting the body panels of the Jensen, ensuring that the finishing paintwork is perfect.

James has been welding the underside of the Jensen, fixing a hole in the exhaust. This has been done by making and welding a seal over the hole.

Grey Jensen’s Re-alignment

Our 1957 Grey Jensen is progressing well in its restoration journey with the majority of its interior trim fitted. It still needs its windscreen and Perspex back windows fitted as well as the door panel trims but the current job in hand is to re-align the doors.

We noticed the inner panels of the door were not sitting correctly so decided to investigate and found that some of the elements need refurbishing.

Black Jensen’s Final Tweaks

Our stunning 1960 Black Jensen 541R is on its final leg of its restoration journey and will soon be returned back to its owner. The recent additions include the oil filter which has recently been re-fitted, the start motor was installed along with a new exhaust. All the components are currently being put back into the car before it has its final paint correction and can then be road tested.

A large part of the final tweaks in a restoration project is reassembling all of the elements after parts have been fitted, which is usually the last stage before the road test.
