When Nick and I started out on the first leg of the Bridge Classic Cars Great Northern Road Trip, we were looking forward to seeing the landscape change from the flat fields of Suffolk into the hilly terrain of the Peak District.
Our car of choice for driving the 100+ miles was a 2021 Audi A4 35 TFSI Black Edition.
The Car – 2021 Audi A4 35 TFSI Black Edition
The Audi A4 35 TFSI Black Edition has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 148bhp. It’s a bit of an all-rounder in that it still has the feel of a sporty Audi but gives a very comfortable drive and has better fuel efficiency than the more sporty models.
Nick did the driving and was very complimentary about the smoothness of the 7-speed S tronic automatic gearbox. It might not be the fastest Audi out there (0 – 62mph in 8.9 seconds), but it is more than powerful enough for a fun road trip up North.

Beautiful British Landscape
Leaving Suffolk’s flat landscape and arriving at the hills of Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, the A4’s suspension had to work a bit harder. However, it did this very well, and the cabin was very quiet despite the turbocharged engine working hard.
As we approached the Peak District, the roads became a bit more challenging, with tight bends and steep inclines. The Audi’s steering and handling looked after us here, though, so we were able to just sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery and some good conversation.
Fuel Efficiency and Comfort
One of the biggest things we noticed about the A4 35 TFSI was its fuel efficiency. Despite the varied terrain and speed, efficiency was high, thanks in part to the 12-volt mild-hybrid system that aids in reducing fuel consumption.
Inside, the Black Edition trim had a very premium feel, with supportive sports seats and a user-friendly infotainment system. The virtual cockpit provided clear navigation prompts, and the dual-zone climate control kept us comfortable throughout the journey.
Arrival in Buxton
After several hours on the road (and a couple of coffee stops), we arrived in Buxton. With so much history and incredible buildings (as well as the water), it was a fantastic place to end our first day on the road.
While we were in the Peak District, we were going to visit Great Northern Classics, the Great British Car Journey, and Crich Tramway Village.
The Audi had delivered us in style and comfort, and had set us up for our stay at the Buxton Crescent Hotel. This was where we met up with Craig, who had made the drive up a little earlier so he could attend an auction hosted by H&H Classics.

Final Thoughts
The drive from Suffolk to Buxton in the Audi A4 35 TFSI Black Edition was certainly an enjoyable experience. I even used it as a mobile office while we were on the road.
We had some exciting things planned, and the first part of our journey was made even better thanks to this great car.
