Appraisal, Repairs and Roof on the 1989 TVR Tasmin

The Bridge Classic Cars team have been diving in deep into the 1989 TVR Tasmin. Our workshop team have also been working alongside our trim team to fit up the new roof before then turning their full attention onto the repairs and wiring on the V8 sports car. But, here to explain it best is our workshop technician Jon.

”Continue appraisal. Inspect. Check axle and gearbox levels. Grease up fully. Strip and remove front wheels to access top ball joint grease nipples and check brakes. Refit wheels a torque up. Inflate tyres. Start repairs. Secure centre ashtray. Strip and remove drivers door panel.”

Investigate why door lock just spins. Found lock loose in door. Central locking been disconnected and wiring missing. Found inner pull handle screws insecure. Replace and secure pull handle. Remove old window regulator wire cable that was left inside door. Remove rod from inner door opener to lock. Bendrod slightly and refit. Connect rod to door key barrel and secure with cable tie as clip broken. Test all operations of door. Locks and unlocks now but won’t open from inner ha dle. Remove rod again and be d a bit more andrefit. Test again. Repeat until door opens from inside. Test all functions again and refit door panel. Repair drivers seat side cover and refit.

”Continue loom tidy under bonnet. Remove header tank and re route wires. Tape up loom and secure with P clip. Refit header tank. Tidy wiring to coil and distributor on offside. Remove cambelt holding down battery. Drill hole in wing to take rod.”

”Attend to wiring in boot. Cut back and tidy wires. Check electric aerial. Power and earth present and signal wire ok from stereo so aerial must be faulty. Cut off wires and shorten.”

”Solder new terminals to aerial wires and tape up. Connect and tidy/secure wiring. Refit carpet. Fit new wiper balde. Put new jack and brace in boot.”

”Repeat strip for other side. Fit new discs to both sides and secure driveshafts. Clean offside caliper and refit.”

”Strip rear brakes. Disconnect hanbrake cable. Removebrake pipes. Remove hanbrake from each caliper and remove caliper. Remove inner driveshaft joint and remove. Remove disc.”

”Clean and prep handbrake caliper and fit new pads. Refit hanbrake caliper and secure. Adjust.”

”Fit new caliper to nearside and secure.”
