Our technician Will has been working his way through a series of routine maintenance jobs on the 1972 Rover P6 4500S meanwhile checking the entire car over and making a list of repairs which he will get to work on too.
‘Appraisal of car and make checklist of all things to do to car, drain rear dif oil and wash out with brake cleaner then fill with 80/90, Wash down engine to look at leaks, drain engine oil, filter off, clean underneath off car, remove number plate light housing and replace blown bulb then refit housing, remove rear right light cluster to figure out why rear parking light not working, test all wiring and find no wire to parking light from terminal block find wiring plugged in wrong and check it over with John, remove oil pressure sensor asnd put new copper washer on it as it was leaking, remove right front wishbone ball joint and replace rubber gator as old was had split, refit wishbone ball joint Remove front pads and inspect find they are ok to be re used, refit front pads, remove rear pads and inspect and find they are ok to be used as well, clean up rear discs, bleed through fresh brake fluid, top car up with oil, clean car up and clean up floor, Go through switches on dash that are not connected and trace wiring, find it had an electric fan at one point test connections and relay, taken a look at amp meter reading negative, Fit new oil filter and pre fill, get oil pressure up and run up to check everything is ok.’
‘Prep for underseal by wire bushing and wire wheeling components, wrap up what is not to get painted in brown paper and in plastic around the car, paint under body in 2 coats of paint’
‘Strip power steering pump, clean up all components, rebuild power steering pump with new seals, refit power steering pump, make sure belt is tensioned, bleed through power steering pump, clean up split fluid, clean up underside car, warm up and burn off residue on exhaust road test car, tidy up after job.’
