Jonn carried out a check of fluid levels and performed a road test on our 1987 Morgan 4/4 before bringing it into the workshop for an appraisal. An initial walk-around inspection was conducted on the floor before proceeding with a more detailed appraisal.
The braking system was examined, beginning with the front brakes, which were found to be in acceptable condition. The offside rear brake was then stripped, revealing a seized adjuster. Heat was applied to free it, and the threads were cleaned, though they appeared to be in poor condition. The adjuster was refitted and tested, but the threads slipped under pressure, indicating that replacement would be necessary. However, the nearside brake was to be inspected before ordering new components.
The nearside rear brake was then stripped, cleaned, and inspected, revealing that its adjuster was also seized. A new pair of adjusters was ordered. The brake drums were refitted, and all wheels were secured and tightened. Tyre pressures were adjusted accordingly.
Attention then turned to the fuel system. The rear seat was removed to access the fuel tank sender, which was taken out and tested. The fuel tank was found to be full, confirming that the gauge reading was accurate. The sender’s seal was greased and refitted before reinstalling the rear seat.
Additional tasks included glueing the edging trim to the mirrors, securing the battery hold-down, and fastening the fuel pipe to the lift pump using cable ties. A check for coolant leaks was conducted by pressurising the system. A leak was identified in a small pipe running from the cylinder head to the radiator. The hose clip was tightened, and a recheck under pressure confirmed that the issue was resolved. The coolant level was then topped up with antifreeze.
