Work has progressed steadily on our 1956 Jensen 541, with Jonn continuing the methodical replacement of chrome components. He began by fitting the lower quarter light trim to both sides and installing a new bonnet badge along with its gasket. The rocker cover was removed and cleaned of the old gasket, then handed over to the bodyshop for painting. Attention then turned to the bonnet, where both securing hold-downs were removed.
New bonnet catches were fitted, followed by a trial refit of the front bumper to assess clearances. After removing the bumper and catches once more, Jonn shortened and re-threaded both components to accommodate stop screws. The bumper was then refitted and thoroughly tested to ensure a correct fit.
The process of replacing chrome parts continued with the drilling and installation of new chrome strips on both front wing vents. Inside the cabin, a kick panel was fitted to the driver’s side footwell. Jonn then turned his focus to the door and rear quarter window gutter trim, drilling out the rivets and carefully removing the old trim before cleaning off all bonding material.
Work advanced along the offside gutter trim, where a corroded gap between the body and roof was sealed. The trim was drilled out, aligned, and securely riveted along its entire length, including an additional front fixing to assist with door clearance. The offside quarter window was then refitted, sealed, and trimmed at the rear to ensure a precise fit.
With the offside completed, the area was vacuumed and tidied before Jonn moved on to the nearside. Rivets were drilled out, the old trim was removed, and remnants of the previous sealer were cleaned away. After addressing the split between the roof and body with fresh sealant, the new trim was aligned, riveted centrally, and left masked in position overnight.
Work resumed on the nearside gutter trim, with the rear quarter window, seals, and fixings reinstated. The trim was then riveted toward the front and secured along its full length. Door shut alignment was verified, and several rivet heads were tapped in for adequate clearance. The area was left clean and tidy upon completion.
