The next task for Pete on our 1985 Mercedes 500SL was the front lower arms. Due to the design of the Mercedes, suspension standard coil spring compressors don’t fit with room to adjust, so he had to fabricate a coil compressor from a few bits we had around the shop.
With that done, Pete marked the position of the camber adjustment bolts so that when it came to rebuild everything, it was back as close as can be to its previous geometry. He then proceeded to remove all the hardware and links associated with the lower arms and the lowers themselves, unfortunately, the drop links were so seized in the sleeves that Pete had no choice but to replace them.
New arms fitted and bolted up, camber reset and everything checked and that was another job done!
The chassis gearbox support was missing some bolts and Pete also found some damaged threads so these were repaired and new bolts fitted.
