Our restoration team have pulled one of our long-term storage classics out for the team to check over and appraise. This project was completed around 5 years ago and seen little use since then, so the team at the Bridge Classic Cars HQ like to get cars like this out every few months to check them over.
”Put battery on charge. Check for spark. Intermittent and weak. Check fuel supply, OK but fuel cold be old. Check voltage to coil, only 2 volts. Battery voltage at ballast resistor OK. Appears to have continuity from ignition module to ballast but no power to ignition module.”
”Carry out appraisal. (Non start). Check battery. I charged it yesterday for 6hrs. 13.1v. Test battery and it failed, requires new battery. Raise on ramp and inspect. Grease all points. Refit exhaust rubbers offside centre. Remove small heatshield and check gearbox oil, OK. Refit shield. Inspect brakes. Connect known good battery and test electrical items. Knock up wheels and inflate all tyres. Remove offside rear light lens. Tighten connections to stop/tail bulb and refit lens.”
”We managed to find an old ignition amplifier in stock. So connect and test. 12v now at coil and at ballast resistor. Crank over and it started. Strip and remove old amp moduleand fit our one. Secure wiring and crimp terminals from distributor to amp module. Shrink wrap wires and tape up. Test again and it starts fine.”
”Fit new battery and secure. Drain fuel tank. Drain bung seal split requires new.”
”Fit new fuel tank drain bung seal. Grease, fit and secure. Fill with 24ltrs Synthetic fuel. Check for leaks, ok. Take outside and run up. Ready to go back to storage.”
