Jonn began work on the TVR Chimaera by removing the remaining mastic from the nearside rear light and masking the area in preparation for re-bonding. While Chris edged the lens in black, Jonn proceeded to charge the vehicle’s battery. The car was then taken outside and brought up to temperature. It was run for half an hour without cutting out, indicating initial stability. However, upon switching off and attempting a restart, the car failed to start. Fuel pressure at the rail was confirmed to be satisfactory, suggesting the issue lay within the ignition system. A weak spark was observed during testing, prompting checks on the wiring to the coil. After the engine had cooled, another attempt was made, and the car restarted. It was run again to operating temperature, then switched off, but once more failed to restart.

Using spark testers, Jonn observed that ignition was intermittent. He tested continuity from the amplifier module to the ECU and found it to be in order, and confirmed that the spark at the coil was present. These findings led him to suspect a fault within the amplifier module. He also topped up the engine oil and inspected the windscreen washers, where he found power reaching the pump, indicating that a replacement pump would be required. The windscreen rubber was also re-secured into position.

Jonn then turned his attention to the nearside window and regulator, which he stripped and removed. The regulator was cleaned and worked back and forth to ensure free movement, which proved satisfactory. On stripping the motor, he discovered a broken brush box on one side. He located a small spring and rubber, and used adhesive to hold the brush securely against the stator. The stator was then removed, cleaned, lubricated, and reassembled. Testing confirmed proper operation. The mechanism was greased, reassembled, and refitted to the car. Initial testing revealed the window was operating slowly and with resistance. The runners were lubricated and their positions adjusted within the door, improving performance. Once operation was acceptable, all components were secured.

Jonn completed reassembly of the door, ensuring all runners were tight and refitting the carpeted section of the door panel. The surround was aligned and fixed in place, and the rubber edge above the door lock was cleaned and reattached. He also removed the stereo surround from the veneered dashboard, extracted the switches, and passed them to Anthony for repair.
