Undersealing our Porsche 914

Karl Reilly is one very lucky man having bagged himself his second prize in our competitions. Back in October 2020 Karl received the call that he had won the Triumph TR3. 4 years on, he still owns the TR3 and is now the proud owner of prize number 2, our Porsche 914.

But before the car can leave our workshops we have tidied up the underneath by cleaning up any loose debris and giving a fresh coat of underseal.

Tuning Our 914

Jonn has been working on our 1973 Porsche 914, in preparation for it to go live on Bridge Classic Cars very soon. Here are his notes:

Strip and fit new spark plugs. I dropped one plug inside engine covers so had to remove cover to retrieve plug. Refit covers and fit ht leads. Run and warm up. Set carbs at an equal setting for both and tune accordingly. Carry out road test. Recheck and adjust ignition timing. Reset carbs and balance all 4 chokes to approx 6 kg/hrs. Adjust air screws and set idle speed.

Porsche 914 Paint Prep

Mauro has been prepping our 1973 Porsche 914 for paint. Once it was fully prepped and masked up, it was ready for colour to be applied.

912 Transport

Our 1965 Porsche 912 has been transported and delivered back home.

Entry Is Open – 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4

Tickets are now available for our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4.

This is a fantastic example of the transaxle grand tourer that offered a more usable and practical version of the Porsche 911. Finished in Grand-Prix white with a black leather-trimmed interior, our 928 has a 5-litre V8 that generates 320bhp.

If you have always wanted your very own Porsche, then this is your chance to win our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4.

Original Wheels Refitted

When our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4 arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop, it had after-market wheels on it.

We have recently refitted original wheels back onto our classic Porsche to help it look much closer to how it would have looked when it left the Porsche factory back in 1987,

Our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4 continues to make good progress and we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this beautiful 928.

A Repaired Boot Load Cover

The boot load cover on our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4 was damaged when it arrived at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. Classic car technician Brian has recently repaired the cover ready for the car to eventually be won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

To repair the cover, Brian first cut calico material out before glueing it to the original damaged material. He then cut out calico material for the other side of the cover and glued it to the original.

Brian then fitted the newly repaired cover back into the car and, as you can see from the photos below, it looks great!

A New Arrival

We have recently welcomed our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4 into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

It has come in for our team of classic car technicians to investigate and resolve a few issues. Some of the issues that will be looked at include inconsistent revs during start-up, the fuel gauge is also inconsistent, knocking on the driver’s side at low speed, and the boot spoiler appears to be a little loose.

While this beautiful classic Porsche is with us, we will also be checking the entire vehicle for any imperfections or corrosion issues as well as checking for any electrical issues too.

Our 1987 Porsche 928 Series 4 is already a great-looking car and we are very much looking forward to seeing it drive out of the workshop and back onto the road in the near future.

Relay – New Relays in the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa

As part of the wiring clean-up on the 1979 Porsche 911, the Bridge Classic Cars team have replaced a set of relays in the classic aircooled 911.

The team noticed the relays which control the horn on the 911 were intermittently working, so new ones were placed on order and fitted to the car as part of the wiring work the team have been doing to the car before it heads to its new home.

On test, all was working on the car after the replacements were fitted.

Check Through – Rewiring the Washer and Tell-Tale Light on the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa

Our technician Jon has been carrying on with getting all the wiring of the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa finished up and ready to head off to its new home.

He has wired up the new washer pump (along with the new wipers) and tested them to make sure everything worked correctly and they cleared the screen properly.

Then, Jon could turn his attention to some of the lighting system. The team noted that the signal light for the fog lights wasn’t working correctly, so Jon carried out a small wiring repair to the circuit before testing it and making sure it worked correctly for the new owner.

Clean Up – Cleaning Up the Wiring on the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa

As part of the pre-delivery work on the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa, the workshop team have cleaned up some of the unneeded wiring under the bonnet of the classic aircooled 911.

Jon, one of Bridge Classic Cars restoration technicians, has carefully gone through each wire and system from the main fuse box to check the harness but also remove any redundant wiring to simplify the cars electrical system for its new owner.

After chasing the loom through the car, Jon reformed a couple of small wiring repairs to the main harness before testing each system individually and checking for continuity throughout the car front to back.

Behind the Scenes – Live Draw of the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa

Last night, the Bridge Classic Cars team got together to find out who the lucky new owner of the 1979 Porsche 911 Targa was!

The live stream started off a touch different this time, with Craig and Freddie showing our followers something very exciting that’s coming up soon and letting them witness and experience this amazing red and white beast… but we can’t give too much of it away on here just yet.

The live stream then moved on to Freddie and Craig having a look around our competitions building and giving our views several sneak peeks of what’s coming up very soon. Also, our show coming next Sunday! Head over to our show page here for more information.

Then, at 10 past 7, the competition closed. Only 240 of the 4750 tickets remained at the end and the entry list was made ready for the team.

Then, it was time to run the draw.

As always, we use a Google Random Number Generator to determine the winner. Craig test the system to show the viewers and then it was time. Setting the criteria between 1 and 4750, with one simple click – the fate of the 911 was decided.

The whir of numbers stopped as quickly as it had started. the screen showed 1766. Checking the entry list, that number had been assigned to Richard Smyth.

The team gave Richard a call – as we do with all our live draws. He answered and chatted with Craig letting us into an amazing story. He had wanted a Porsche 911 since he was 9 years old and now, he has his very own 1979 Porsche 911 Targa.

Back to Standard – Refitting an Original Steering Wheel to the 1981 Porsche 911SC

The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars have completed the next job on the classic 1981 Porsche 911 SC.

One of the owners’ requests was to remove the aftermarket Momo Indy steering wheel and fit an original style wheel. For this, the team removed the aftermarket wheel from the boss in order to then remove the ground rings and swap them onto the original wheel for the horn.

With this swapped over, the original wheel was slipped down the steering shaft and correctly torqued to spec before the covers were put back on.

This Just In – 1979 Porsche 911 Targa

The Bridge Classic Cars team at our Suffolk HQ have welcomed this stunning 1979 Porsche 911 into our workshop for the team to inspect and assess.

The classic Porsche is a Targa model, having a removable roof panel as opposed to a full convertible. The team will be both mechanically and aesthetically inspecting the entire vehicle and compiling their report.

This stunning Guards Red 1979 Porsche 911 Targa is coming into the Bridge Classic Cars workshop at our Suffolk HQ very soon.

The team will be carrying out a full inspection and assessment on the classic air-cooled 911 and will report back with any findings after a road test and visual investigation.

Final Piece – New Dust Covers on the 1985 Porsche 911

Whilst our friends at Tyre Assist changed the tyres on the 1985 Porsche 911, the Bridge Classic Cars workshop team installed the new dust covers.

The team had previously replaced the corroded dust covers which sit behind the brake discs on the classic 911. The new replacements are a direct change over from the original set taken off the car and bolt straight back onto the hub.

With this now done the discs can be refitted onto the car, brakes reinstalled and adjusted before the wheels are torqued down and it is finally on its way to its new home.

The Once Over – PDI and Work on the 1985 Porsche 911

The 1985 Porsche 911 has been in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop to have the last small bits and pieces done on the car before it is delivered to its new owner.

The workshop team have gone through the process of removing the original dust covers from the back of the brakes on the classic 911. These had corroded and begun to split, and are not a safety-related item for the car so the team have worked on getting them removed from the car. Replacement dust covers have been ordered and will be fitted to the car before it leaves our workshop bound for its new home.

Devil in the Detail – Detailing the 2013 Porsche Boxster

The 2013 Porsche Boxster has been in the capable hands of our go-to valeter Viper Auto Valet.

The front end of the Boxster is being polished and cleaned before it goes into our in-house paint team to have its minor imperfections worked on to get it looking absolutely perfect for its owner.

Final Pieces – Replacing the Wiper Motor and Repairing the Rear Cover of the 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars have been working on the classic 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo.

The first job was to fit the new replacement wiper motor under the scuttle panel. The team carefully undid and removed the mechanism and then pulled the old motor out of the car to check against the new piece. With the piece verified, the team could then work in reverse getting the new motor hooked up and in the car.

Then, the team turned their attention to the rear boot cover. This piece retracts and rolls up normally, but it had developed a bind which caused it to not roll back into the cartridge. Our technician Jon carefully took apart the piece to free it and then carefully reloaded the cover into the cartridge and put it back into the car where when tested worked correctly multiple times over without hesitation.

With the weather getting better and better, the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions team decided to change things up a little bit. For this, we took our latest competition cars down to Beach Street in Felixstowe to find out who the lucky winners were of our amazing 1985 Porsche 911, TAG Heuer Carrera and the 2007 Jaguar XKR.

The setting was perfect by the coast as the late spring sun began to move back towards the horizon. The team set up the cars ready to show everyone online and everyone at Beach Street to look around, including a newly launched 1980 supercharged Mini Van.

After the usual walk around, it was time to find out who’s lucky day it really was. The team input the numbers for the Google Random Number Generator to choose from and then with a single click, it was done.

Stopping Power – Freeing the Brakes and Replacing the Handbrake Shoe on the 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

The restoration workshop at Bridge Classic Cars have been working on freeing and fixing the brakes on the 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo.

The car had a concern of the front nearside brake binding on while driving. The team stripped back the calliper and freed it loose. From there, the team inspected the rest of the brakes and began work on the handbrake of the classic Porsche.

Upon inspection, the team found the handbrake shoes were in need of replacement so a new set was ordered and fitted then adjusted to spec.

All Present and Correct – Fixing the Front Spot Lights and Heater Valve on the 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars have been working on sorting out a few electrical issues with the 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo.

The team first began with wiring in the front spot lights. This involved an in-depth pin grip and continuity testing through both the dash and bay harness to find why the front spot lights weren’t working correctly. After some wiring repairs and securing the necessary wiring from the lights to the switch, all worked perfectly and allowed the team to move onto the larger job at hand.

One of the concerns for the car was the heater valve and its controls working incorrectly. For this, our technician Jon removed the entire heater valve from the car in order to inspect it for any faults and its operation. The valve itself worked but on the interior panel, the controller for the heater had fallen into the dash itself from behind. Once this had been carefully pulled through from the dash, the team discovered it had seized and was in need of repair.

After this had been carried out, the team retested and got the heater system working just as it should.

Behind the Scenes – Shooting the 1985 Porsche 911

It’s a dream car to many, a hero to some and an icon to all. It’s also the latest Bridge Classic Cars Competition. The 1985 Porsche 911.

After the inspection of the car by the restoration teams and given the green light, the car was released to Freddie, Hayley and Nick to begin the process of shooting this legendary air-cooled Porsche 911. the team headed to our filming location to get to work and just to experience this incredible driving machine.

The day was perfect for it. White clouds broke up the endless blue sky as the late spring sunshine draped itself over the glossy black paintwork of the car. From every angle, the car looked just like it had done in countless bedroom posters for generations. To some, the air-cooled 911s are the purest of their design. A common link shared from its earliest days at the beginning of the 1960s up until the late 1990s. But this one is special.

It has been asked for by so many of our followers, we have been waiting for the right one to come along. The car is finished in gloss black with a black/red interior which looked incredible as the team jumped into the car. Then, without so much as a hesitation after the signature key was turned, the 3.2-litre flat-six spat into life with a satisfying crack before the synonymous rumble filled the Suffolk air. All of us that day knew this was going to be an incredible car.

Freddie and Hayley took the car up to our filming location to start shooting with the classic 911. As it pulled away, you could feel the car wanting to stretch its legs. The potential and promise of a driving experience unlike any other at your fingertips.

As the morning continued, the 911 ran faultlessly. Happily going from an idle to speed and back again over and over while Freddie got the exact shots he needed. On different roads around our shoot, the classic Porsche soaked up any bumps or ruts without so much as a wince or gritting of teeth for either the car or the driver. A short, flat out run or a long-legged cruise would suit this 911 down to the ground. It really is a car for all seasons.

Pre-clean – 1985 Porsche 911 Prepared for Wash

The beautiful 1985 Porsche 911 in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop has gotten a whole lot more beautiful over the weekend as it had its full valet carried out.

The classic air-cooled Porsche was prepped and readied for the valet by our restoration team ahead of the work starting. So, we thought we would show you a few before photos of the classic 911 still with road grime and dust.

In Print – Our 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo in Modern Classics April 2017

As part of the giant history across three A4 ring binders that accompany our 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo, is a magazine. The April 2017 issue of Modern Classics features our very own 1990 944 Turbo!

The well-written and complimentary article regarding the underrated 1990s GT car is a lovely thing to read and features a lot of details about what had been done on the car in regards to its engine and running gear and how that added to the experience of the car. The write up on the car is based on whether or not the 944 (and 944 Turbo) were at the time a good investment for enthusiasts, to which we can confirm that this one especially is very much a drivers car!

They noted the handling on our 944 Turbo was made all the better by the M030 handling pack retrofitted onto the 944 and the wider Design 90 wheels allowing more grip in the corners than was achievable of standard S2 wheels.

The photos are also stunning taken for the article, they show just how vibrant the Guards Red paintwork is across the arrow-straight bodywork of the car and compliment the dark black interior.

We’re always interested to hear what writers in the industry have to say about our cars and especially when it’s a car that will soon be heading to its new owner through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

Behind the Scenes – Photoshoot with the 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo

The beautiful and mechanically superb 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo has been fully inspected, tested and assessed by the restoration workshop at Bridge Classic Cars. And, with a clean bill of health, it was time for the car to head out for its photoshoot.

The team took the 944 Turbo to our secure vehicle storage facility, The Hangar, to begin the shoot of the iconic 1990s GT car. This 944, is not like others. With a beautifully upgraded and rebuilt 2.5 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, it now makes 320BHP and 380lbs/ft of torque! A serious jump in performance is complemented with upgraded running gear, brakes and suspension to make the car more usable and reliable.

The car is finished in quintessential Guards Red with black interior, and the bodywork along with its interior looked stunning in the early spring sun. The noise from the beautifully built engine found any stiff surface to bounce off and find its way back to the joy of the Bridge Classic Cars Competitions team. The car and the experience it gave was addictive.
