Winners Circle – Lyle Taking Delivery of the 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Tribute

The Bridge Classic Cars Competitions team have delivered another dream classic to its new and excited owner.

Lyall Logan won our 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Tribute back in December with the winning ticket 6128. The car has recently finished having its last few bits and pieces done by our technicians at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop in Suffolk and this morning was delivered right to Lyle’s door.

The whole family came out to see the car. Lyall has wanted a classic Mustang since he was a boy so to make this dream car come true for someone is really special.

We wish Lyall and the family many happy miles and years cruising in this iconic convertible.

The Right Direction – Fixing the Steering Coupler on the 1967 Ford Mustang GT350 Tribute

John, our workshop manager at Bridge Classic Cars has been working on the steering coupler of the 1967 Ford Mustang GT350 Tribute. On inspection, John found that the coupler which had been fitted was binding when the steering approached full lock. This would need attention.

John removed the original coupler and noted it had the incorrect sized coupler on one end and a selection of mismatched pieces on the other. So, because safety is paramount for any Bridge Classic Cars projects, John got a specially made new coupler specifically made for the car and its bespoke right-hand drive conversion. Now, with the new component in the car, John could begin to test. After checking and rechecking, the new piece worked perfectly and didn’t bind up the coupler.

Plugged In – Changing Spark Plugs on the 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible

This 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible is having a list of things done to it by Bridge Classic Cars in Suffolk, UK but next up on the jobs is a spark plug change.

Mauro, our in-house restoration technician, has been working deep in the engine bay of the Mustang. As you can see by the photos, the sparkplugs that were in the Mustang had been in there for quite some time. With that, it was decided to renew them as part of the refresh being done on the car. As with all old spark plugs, you need to be very careful as they can be quite fragile.

So, Mauro gently eased the plugs out of the cylinder head ready to be inspected. They were heavily corroded on the mounts and also the ground straps and electrodes were covered in carbon. New plugs it was for this unique muscle car. Mauro also decided to inspect and clean up the threads in the cylinder head ready for the new spark plugs.

With the new spark plugs in the car, it was just a case of getting the leads back on the car according to its firing order ready for when we first fire up the V8.

Sealed up Tight – Replacing the Pinion Seal on the 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible Rear End

Mauro, our in-house restoration technician, has been working on the 1967 Ford Mustang that we have in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.

As part of its mechanical refresh recently, Mauro replaced the rear axle seals and now it’s time to renew the rear pinion seal. A key part of the well being of any rear-wheel drive car.

After removing the old seal and inspecting the mounting surfaces, Mauro then put the new seal in place and check the pinion worked correctly. It all worked perfectly. So with that, the driveshaft and coupling were put back in place and it was time to move on to the next job on the list…

Breathing New Life – Preparing the Rocker Covers on a 1967 Ford Mustang for Paint

With American V8s the first thing you notice in the engine bay is the Rocker Covers.

One of the most iconic of these is the historic ”Cobra by Ford” covers that graced the tops of some of the most legendary race and sportscar engines the American continent has ever produced.

Our 1967 Ford Mustang has got these very covers fitted on top of its small-block V8. These covers will be refinished in-house by our paint and body teams to make sure that when they go back on, they look just like, if not better, than the day they were fitted.

On the Straight and Narrow – Looking into the Steering on our 1967 Ford Mustang

This 1967 Ford Mustang isn’t like many others. This is a right-hand drive 1967 Ford Mustang.

That does make refurbishing the suspension and steering systems a little bit trickier. But, it’s nothing our in-house restoration technicians can’t handle. The conversion was done on the car prior to its history with ourselves, apparently done during the vehicles life done in the Phillipines.

Our Technician, Paul, has been slowly taking apart the steering rack in preparation to be rebuilt along with its suspension set up.

We are currently sourcing replacement pieces for the vehicle thanks to the detailed nature of the assessment on each component of this unique Mustang.

After Paul did inspection work on the 1967 Ford Mustang 350, one of the first things that are being done is that the steering rack is being sent off to be over-hauled, after it was found to be leaking at the seals.

Paul has been giving our 1967 Ford Mustang 350 a thorough check over and noting down any issues he does find. So far, he’s found that the wheels aren’t sitting quite right and there’s a leak coming from the underside that needs further investigation work.
