Jon carried out an inspection and service on the 1994 TVR Chimaera here at the Bridge Classic Cars HQ while also investigating some running issues. He checked the engine bay for potential faults and arranged for a new coolant temperature sensor to be ordered, as this is a common cause of problems on these engines. He also raised with the customer the importance of confirming when the fuel was last added, as the tank was full but the age of the fuel was uncertain.
Jon drained the oil and removed the filter as part of the service, then drained the fuel tank by connecting the fuel pump directly to the battery and using it to empty the tank into barrels before reconnecting the feed pipe and wiring to the pump. He added 10 litres of E5 petrol, fitted a new oil filter, and refilled the engine with fresh oil. After running the engine, he rechecked the oil level and topped it up as needed. During testing, he observed that the rev counter was erratic and that the engine idle was rough. He will proceed with fitting the new coolant temperature sensor once it arrives in order to check the timing and continue diagnosing the running issues.
