Resolving Past Issues

Pete carried out significant repairs on our 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Volante, beginning with the front light area where new discs were cut, cleaned, and welded into place. The original body holes had suffered extensive damage, including multiple splits and numerous drill holes from previous attempts to refit the light back plates. These compromised areas were beyond recovery, necessitating complete replacement. Additional sections of the body exhibiting splits and holes were also addressed, with alloy weld used to fill and smooth them in alignment with the original body lines as closely as possible. Fixing holes will be re-drilled during the body preparation phase prior to painting.

Attention then shifted to the driver’s front arch, the sill, and the lower valance, where initial work has begun. The repairs are being carefully blended to match the factory lines, preserving the car’s original appearance. The team had the benefit of referencing another restored DB6 Volante, allowing for precise comparisons to ensure the highest standards of restoration are met. As the inspection progressed, areas requiring corrections to past repair work were identified, with more details on those adjustments to follow.
