Real Life Spiderman

Peter Parker has some competition when it comes to being the only Spiderman, as an American climber has climbed a skyscraper with no ropes, harness, safety net, or climbing equipment.

The climber, Alex Honnold, climbed Taipei 101,in Taiwan. The building is 508 metres tall and looks a bit like a rocket. It’s made from glass, steel, and concrete so is very different to the rocks and mountains Alex would normally be climbing.

Amazingly, the climb was streamed live on Netflix too. The climb was supposed to happen a day earlier, but rain made the building too slippery. Once the weather cleared though, Alex started climbing and he made it to the top in just 1 hour and 31 minutes.

As Alex climbed, people inside the building waved at him and took pictures on their phones. Luckily, he didn’t get distracted and completed his climb safely.

Alex was already famous for climbing without ropes. He became almost well known when he climbed El Capitan, a huge cliff in California’s Yosemite National Park. That climb was turned into an Oscar-winning documentary called Free Solo.

Obviously, you shouldn’t try this at home, Alex had a team of people supporting him and permission from the builders owner to climb it.

Congratulations Alex Honnold!
